England and the West Indies do battle again on Thursday when they meet in the 2nd of a 3 match Test series at Old Trafford in Manchester. We take a look at the match and the series from a betting angle.
What had looked like a very one-sided betting series has been thrown wide open as underdogs West Indies clinched a thrilling victory in the first test.
England started the series as 1/10 favourites with the drawn series 10/1 and West Indies on offer at a massive 16/1. The revised betting looks very different with England now 9/10, the drawn series 5/1 and West Indies available at 18/10. Back to the 1st Test and England were always chasing the game after winning the toss and opting to bat first in bowler friendly conditions. In the end the West Indies won by 4 wickets and Gabriel took 9 wickets in the match and earned the Man of the Match award.
Good news for England is that the weather forecast looks decent at this point and they will be desperate for as much play as possible knowing that even a drawn match would see any chance of a series victory elude them.
England have a good recent record at Old Trafford although they did lose against Australia here in 2019.
BETTING
Match Winner, England 4/10, Draw 13/2, West Indies 4/1
Regular skipper Joe Root should be back for England and that could help settle the side ahead of two “must win” matches. Although England had their chances in the 1st Test, the West Indies certainly showed that they had been underrated by the bookmakers and I can’t bring myself to take the 4/10 about England and will look to the Exotic Markets for a bet.
Suggested Bet: A 100 to be scored in the match, First Innings, YES, at 1/1
The first test almost had a feel of players getting to grips with the game again after a long break and I am expecting better application this time round especially in the forecast good conditions. Nobody came close to a century in Southampton, but I am betting that we get one in one of the team’s first innings in this Test match.
Suggested Bet: Top away bowler Roach at 11/4
Much was expected of Roach in the series and while bowling well he just never got amongst the wickets, I am expecting that to change though and will back him to be the Top West Indies Bowler in the 1st innings.
