BettingDiaryFormula 1 season gets going this weekend with the Bahrain Grand Prix and we take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting to win the Championship where Lewis Hamilton is not surprisingly short at 5/10, Max Verstappen is second in the betting at 12/5 and you can get 14/1 about Valtteri Bottas, Hamilton’s teammate and 16/1 and better the field.

There is also betting without Lewis Hamilton which is a market which should have more interest and here Verstappen is 4/6 favourite ahead of Bottas 33/10, Perez 9/2 and you can get 16/1 and better the balance.

There is also a season race wins market where I fancy Hamilton under 13.5 wins at a current price of 4/6.

BAHRAIN GP - PAST WINNERS

2020 – Lewis Hamilton

2019 – Lewis Hamilton

2018 – Sebastian Vettel

2017 – Sebastian Vettel

2016 – Nico Rosberg

Last seasons Formula 1 calendar was very disjointed due to COVID-19 and this race took place late in the year. Lewis Hamilton was the victor ahead of Max Verstappen and surprise package Alexander Albon. Hamilton had qualified in pole position and Max Verstappen finished with the fastest lap.

Max Verstappen 15/10

Lewis Hamilton 17/10

Sergio Perez 7/1

Valtteri Bottas 9/1

Daniel Ricciardo 25/1

50/1 and better the balance

Suggested Bet: Max Verstappen win at 15/10

It is quite unusual to see a race where Hamilton is not priced as the favourite, but Verstappen is edging him in the betting on the basis of some testing at the track earlier this month. Verstappen was the fastest and if he can hold that form going into this week looks a likely race winner.

I also fancy Verstappen to match last year’s feat of the fastest lap, but will just stick to the win bet for the time being.

Suggested Bet: Points Finish, Estaban Ocon at 8/10

Ocon finished in the Top 10 in last year’s race ending up 9th after qualifying in 7th spot. I am expecting improvement from him this season and will be disappointed if he isn’t amongst the points.
