BettingDiaryThe Australian Grand Prix returns to the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne for the first time since 2019 and we take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Max Verstappen did the business in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix two weeks ago overtaking Charles Leclerc late on with Carlos Sainz completing the podium. Leclerc now has a 12 point lead over Sainz at the top of the Drivers Standings with Verstappen a further 8 points back. Lewis Hamilton currently sits in 5th place, 29 points behind Leclerc.

Looking at the Championship Betting, Max Verstappen is the 17/20 favourite with Leclerc on offer at 18/10 and you can get 9/1 Lewis Hamilton and 16/1 and better the balance.

Ferrari will be confident going into this race as they have a good record at the track having won here in 2017 and 2018 although those victories were bookended by Mercedes victories in 2016 and 2019. It should be noted that the circuit has undergone a number of changes so reading too much into past form may not be advisable especially given we have had two years without a Grand Prix here due to Covid.

Suggested Bets:

Charles Leclerc win at 17/10

I think this circuit is going to suit the Ferraris’ and Leclerc is starting to show the sort of consistency of a man who is going to contend for the Championship.

Podium Finish, Lewis Hamilton at 5/2

Hamilton has had a terrible start to the season, but you cannot keep a great man down for long and I am expecting a stronger showing from the Mercedes this week.

Points Finish, Daniel Ricciardo at 11/4

The Australian has had a poor start to the season running 14th in Bahrain and then retiring in Saudi Arabia. He also didn’t enjoy a great Australian Grand Prix last time he was out here and I just have a feeling that the planets will align for him and he can race his way to a Top 10 finish.
