BettingDiaryThe Spanish Grand Prix takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday and we take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Let’s start with a look at the Championships standings where Charles Leclerc’s lead has been cut to 19 points after Max Verstappen won in Miami last time out. Perez is a further 19 points behind Verstappen and you have to go right down to 6th spot on the table to find Lewis Hamilton well off the early pace. Verstappen is now the 17/20 favourite to win the title with Leclerc priced at 12/10 and you can get 28/1 and better the balance.

Verstappen started 3rd on the grid in Miami, but by the 10th lap had moved to the head of the field passing Carlos Sainz Jr. and Charles Leclerc who had started on pole. A late safety car added some drama, but Verstappen held on for the win ahead of Leclerc and Sainz Jr.

The Spanish Grand Prix has been dominated by Lewis Hamilton in recent seasons and he has won the last 5, but it is an indication of his and the Mercedes form that he can be backed at 28/1 this week. Last season Hamilton cruised home by 15 seconds ahead of Verstappen with Bottas completing the podium.

SUGGESTED BET: Max Verstappen win at 12/10

Verstappen is looking like the man to beat at the moment and I have no hesitation in taking him at this price. He was impressive last week, has plenty of confidence and with his runner-up finish last year and victory in 2016 he also has course form.

This bet comes with a Money Back in Free Bets for Second Place Guarantee with World Sports Betting so with that insurance at the back of my mind I am going to have a tasty strike on Verstappen.

SUGGESTED BET: Podium finish, Hamilton at 4/1

In interviews Hamilton doesn’t look confident that Mercedes have solved their problems, but he was solid enough in Miami and given his record at this track I can’t resist a bit of the 4/1 that he finishes in the Top 3.
