BettingDiaryIreland host South Africa in the 2nd ODI in Malahide on Tuesday and although the 1st ODI was a no result due to rain, Ireland showed enough to suggest they will be no pushovers.

This 2nd ODI will take place at the same ground in Dublin and in the first ODI South Africa won the toss and elected to field which given the rain about was not a surprising decision.

Phehlukwayo was the first to strike dismissing Paul Stirling for 13, but Porterfield and Balbirnie put up an impressive 87 run 2nd wicket partnership with Porterfield eventually dismissed for 63 and Balbirnie for 65. Ireland reached a 195 for 4 off 40.2 overs when the game was halted for good.

Looking at the South African bowlers, Rabada got 2 for 43 in 8.2 overs and Phehlukwayo and Shamsi also picked up wickets with all of the South African bowlers looking steady though not spectacular.

Ireland 13/2

South Africa 1/10

Suggested Bet: Pre-match Handicap, Ireland (+6.5) wickets / 52.5 runs at 8/10

When rain forced the cancellation of the 1st ODI, Ireland were not in a bad position and although I accept the fact that the Proteas are strong favourites for this, I think there could be some value in backing the Irish to beat the handicap.

Suggested Bet: Top Away Batsman, Bavuma, at 7/2

There could be quite a lot of movement in the air and I would not be surprised to see Bavuma playing an anchor role while others bat around him.

Remember there will be in-running betting on the match so if you don’t fancy anything up front you could always wait to see what conditions are like before getting involved.
