Thursday looks like a busy sports betting day with the first Ashes Test getting going, the ATP Washington continuing and the Women’s British Open Golf also getting under way. We take a look at some of the betting options available.
CRICKET, THE ASHES
Excitement is high for the 5 match Ashes Series which gets going on Thursday at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Before we look at the match itself, a quick look at the series betting where England are still 9/10 favourites, Australia 15/10 and the draw 7/1.
England are also firm favourites to win the first test at 19/20 with the draw a long shot at 6/1 and Australia 31/20. We had mentioned in the week we fancy a big series from Joe Root and the 12/10 that he scores a 50 in the 1st innings appeals as a possible bet.

GOLF
The AIG Women’s British Open starts on Thursday and Jin Young Ko is the 9/1 favourite ahead of Ariya Jutanugarn at 10/1, Lexi Thompson looks a tempting 18/1 to win and of the long shots we fancy a bit of Hannah Green at 16/1 for a place.

The PGA Championship continues with the Wyndham Championship and Webb Simpson is a favourite at 10/1 with Matsuyama 18/1, Spieth 18/1 and Morikawa 18/1, you can get 22/1 and better the balance and of the favourites we like the look of Patrick Reed who is priced at 22/1 while South African Dylan Frittelli looks tempting for an each way option at 70/1 a win and 14/1 a place.

HORSE RACING
Local horse racing is at the Vaal on Thursday with the 9 race card getting going at 12:10 and ending at 16:50. No 6 Flying High is 9/10 to win the 5th race and could well rate a Pick 6 banker on the day.

Varsity Cup Soccer also takes place on Thursday and looking at the betting, all four matches look fairly competitive with none of the favourites priced at under even money.

TENNIS
The ATP Washington continues on Thursday and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga looks to have a battle on his hands against Kyle Edmund, Tsonga is the 6/10 favourite, but Edmund looks a big runner at 27/20.

MOTOGP
MotoGP returns this weekend with the Czech Grand Prix and here we have Marc Marquez a 15/20 favourite ahead of Dovizioso at 17/4, Vinales 37/4 and you can get 19/2 and better the balance.
Marquez is a massive favourite to defend his World Championship and you can get no more than 1/100 about his chances.

RUGBY
A quick look ahead to the weekend where we have 3 Currie Cup matches including Friday night the Free State v the Golden Lions. Free State are firm favourites here at (-14.5) and you have to wonder if bookmakers are under-estimating this Golden Lions side who are coming off a victory over Western Province.
