BettingDiaryWednesday is a fairly quiet day as far as live sport goes so we take the opportunity to look ahead at some of the weekend’s action that awaits.

TENNIS, Rogers Cup

There are some intriguing encounters in Montreal on Wednesday not least of which Nick Kyrgios against Kyle Edmund.  Edmund is a narrow favourite at 17/20 with the volatile Kyrgios 19/20.

Another interesting game should be Dominic Thiem who is 6/10 to beat Denis Shapovalov who is priced at 13/10.

HORSE RACING

Local horse racing moves to Scottsville on Wednesday for an 8 race programme starting at 12h35 and scheduled to end at 16h45.  The 6th race over 1200 metres has an interesting look to it with the Top 3 on the betting boards all trained by Denis Drier and our preference is for the favourite In The Stars, Horse No. 2 currently priced at 15/10 for the win.

RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIPS

There has been no handicap movement in the two Rugby Championship games with Australia still (+10.5) against New Zealand and Argentina (+7.5) at home to South Africa.

We actually think the New Zealand, Australia game could start off fairly close with the All Blacks pulling clear late and all those looking to get involved early how about a little bit of 22/10 New Zealand lead by 1-7 points inclusive at the break.

Argentina will certainly feel they have something to prove when they host South Africa and at this point we are leaning towards a close win by the visitors and the under 12.5 point winning margin appeals at 15/10.

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Liverpool and Norwich get us going with an English Premier League fixture on Friday night and that is followed by 6 fixtures on Saturday where we get to see how newcomers Sheffield United and Aston Villa fare.  Both sides are on the road, Sheffield United play Bournemouth and they are priced at 57/20 and Aston Villa are rank outsiders at 15/2 to upset Tottenham away.

GOLF

We will focus on this in a bit more detail in our Thursday Diary, but the PGA Tour continues with The Northern Trust Open where Brooks Koepka is 8/1 ahead of Rory Mcilroy 11/1 and you can get 16/1 and better the field.

Ladies golf once again takes centre stage in Europe with the Scottish Open and South African, Ashleigh Buhai will certainly have some support at 55/1 after her impressive Top 5 finish at the British Open last weekend.

THE ASHES

We have some time to wait till the Second Test, but the betting is out and England are 5/4 with the draw 11/2 and Australia also 5/4 and if the betting is accurate we should be in for a closely fought affair.
