The PGA Tour moves to the Torrey Pines North and South courses in California this week and we take a look at the Farmers Insurance Open and pick 4 players to take on the bookies.
This event is played over 2 courses namely Torrey Pines North and South with the first two rounds alternating between the two courses and the third and fourth rounds played over the tougher South Course. The South Course is by far the longer and will give the golfers a stern test. There is plenty of trouble awaiting off the tee so while distance is important so is accuracy.
Course specialist Jon Rahm tops the betting boards at 7/1 and there are a number of other big guns who have come out this week including Justin Thomas 13/1 and Xander Schauffele at 16/1. Hideki Matsuyama a winner just a couple of weeks ago is available at 20/1 alongside Bryson Dechambeau and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS
Jon Rahm win at 7/1
Rahm was a touch disappointing last week, but he did finish in the Top 15 and has a runner-up finish to his credit in his previous start. In other words the current form is there and his course form is exceptional bearing in mind he won the US Open at Torrey Pines and has finished in the Top 10 in this event in 4 out of his last 5 attempts including a victory and a runner-up finish.
Tony Finau each way at 25/1
Finau opened his year with a Top 20 finish and then last week could only finish 40th. That is solid , but not exceptional form, but it his course form that I really like and he was runner-up last year and has not finished outside the Top 25 in 7 attempts which includes 2 Top 5’s, 2 Top 10’s and 2 Top 20’s. Finau’s game is perfectly suited to this course and I am expecting a big run from him this week.
Marc Leishman each way at 30/1
Leishman didn’t play last week, but he began his year with a Top 10 finish in Hawaii and the next week finished in the Top 40. It is course form that catches the eye though and he won this event 2 years ago and has had 4 Top 20’s in his last 5 starts including an 18th place finish last year. With his game seemingly in reasonable shape I am expecting him to come to hand at a track that he loves.
Ryan Palmer each way at 66/1
Palmer is another one with exceptional course form having started 4 times, 2 runner-up finishes and never finishing below 21st. Last season he finished runner-up and his only start of the season he was Top 15 two weeks ago. Palmer fits the bill of players who are in reasonable form, but have a clear liking for the Torrey Pines layout.
