BettingDiaryThe PGA Tour stops off in Michigan, Detroit this week for the 2nd edition of the The Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The Tournament is played at the Detroit Golf Club, a par 72 layout with small greens and plenty of trees although the fairway landing areas are generous and last year the players went low with the winning score (-25).

While there is plenty of strength in this field it is certainly not of the quality that we have seen in past weeks and that is evident in the betting where Bryson Dechambeau, one of the most consistent men in the game at the moment is a 6/1 favourite ahead of Webb Simpson priced at 14/1 and then we have Patrick Reed and Tyrrell Hatton at 16/1.

Dechambeau finished Top 10 last week for the 6th successive Tournament, but he will be starting to feel the pressure of converting high placings into a victory and the 6/1 doesn’t appeal.

Selections

Viktor Hovland each way at 20/1

Hovland has caught the eye with 3 successive Top 25 finishes including last week where he finished just outside the Top 10. He also played this Tournament last year finishing in 13th position so he is one of the few players with a mixture of current and course form.

J.T. Poston each way at 40/1

I am giving Poston another go this week after he let me down last week at double the price. He finished 11th on debut here in 2019 and prior to last weeks missed cut had consecutive Top 10 finishes on the Tour.

Brendon Todd each way at 80/1

Tod was in contention last week eventually finishing 11th and I liked what I saw of his game and don’t think the fact that he hasn’t played this course before is going to be a negative. At this price we won’t do a lot of damage.

Branden Grace each way at 75/1

The South African has been disappointing in the last two weeks with a missed cut and a finish far down the field, but prior to that he did finish in the Top 20 in his return to action. In a slightly weaker field he must have a chance although my main bet on him this week will be in the top South African market where he is quoted as 22/10, second favourite behind Christiaan Bezuidenhout who is 2/1.
