WSB Logo Orange 80x80After a thrilling tournament at the Players Championship last weekend, the PGA Tour remains in Florida for the annual Valspar Championship at Copperhead. We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and pick 4 players to take on the bookmakers.

The Course

Just off the West Coast of Florida, the Copperhead Course is located 40km northwest of Tampa. Known for its challenging layout, Copperhead is a parkland course that tests even the best players on tour. Several holes feature slight doglegs and tight fairways lined with trees, making accuracy crucial. The par 71 course measures 7,209 yards (6591m) from the tips.

Market Leaders

The bookies have Englishman, Tommy Fleetwood as joint favourite to win this weekend along with Justin Thomas. Both are trading at 15.00. Xander Schauffele follows close behind, trading at 17.00.

Selections:

Sepp Straka at 23.00

Straka is currently sitting second on the FedEx Cup rankings just behind McIlroy who won last weekend. Straka has had a more than decent start to the season, finishing in the top fifteen in six of his eight starts. He finished fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and won the American Express at the start of the year. Straka has been on flying form, and it looks a matter of time before he gets another win this season and I am betting on him to bounce back from last years Missed Cut at this course.

Suggested bet: Sepp Straka each way at 23.00.

Sam Burns at 31.00

Burns had a disappointing week at last year’s Valspar Championship, however, he has a very impressive record at the tournament. Burns won the tournament back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. He also went on to finish sixth in 2023 and 12th back in 2018. Sometimes all a player needs is a course that suits their eye and they can be right back on form, and I can see this being the case for Sam Burns who had looked pretty solid earlier in the year.

Suggested bet: Sam Burns each way at 31.00.

Michael Kim at 41.00.

Kim went into the Players Championship on a hot run of form finishing thirteenth or better in five straight starts. His best finish was runner-up at the Phoenix Open where if it were not for a simply flawless weekend by Thomas Detry, he would have been in it for the win. The Players is one of the toughest tournaments for any player to do well in and although it was not his finest week, he will be hungry to make up for it and hit form again at a course where his form is steadily improving.

Suggested bet: Michael Kim each way at 41.00 and a bigger bet Top 10 at 5.00

Adam Hadwin at 226.00

The 37 year old Canadian is my rank outsider for the week and although his form has dipped in the last few weeks he has a top 10 just 4 starts back so he may not be that far from contending. If he is to fire it may well be at a course he has a love/hate relationship with. In the last 7 years he has had 3 Missed Cuts but has also had a win, a top 10, a top 15 and a 5th place finish in 2024.

Suggested bet: Adam Hadwin each way at 226.00 for small stakes and a larger play on a top 20 at 6.50
