BettingDiaryRory Mcilroy heads the betting for the Wells Fargo Championship this week’s PGA Tour stop.

The Wells Fargo Tournament moves to a new venue this week, the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, Maryland. The reason for the switch is that the regular course, Quail Hollow is hosting the Presidents Cup later in the year.

The course was used on Tour back in 2006 and also in 2017 and 2018 for the Quicken Loans tournament so we don’t have too much to go on as far as course form is concerned. TPC Potomac plays to a Par 70 and all indications are that it will be a true test for the players with accuracy more important than distance.

Last week saw a single digit favourite arrive when Jon Rahm finally won again at a starting price of 5/1 and this week defending champ Rory McIlroy is in single figures at 8/1 with Corey Conner 20/1, Tony Finau and Matthew Fitzpatrick are both trading at 22/1 and 28/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS:

Tony Finau each way at 22/1

Finau stormed through the field late last week to claim a runner-up finish behind Jon Rahm. He has an excellent iron game and that should hold him in good stead with the small greens and having looked a bit off colour of late an in form Finau can go close this week.

Corey Conners each way at 20/1

Conners has been in excellent form and has not finished outside the Top 35 in his last 6 starts, that includes a Top 3, a top 10 and two Top 15 finishes. Conners has the game for this course and looks a lively runner in a relatively weak field.

Marc Leishman each way at 40/1

Leishman is one of the few players with course form having played in the Quicken Loans Open here in 2017/2018 finishing 5th and 13th respectively. He is also showing signs of coming to hand and was just outside the Top 20 in his last start. We know he has shown a liking for the course and if he can continue that improvement he can give us a run for our money at a nice price.

Sergio Garcia each way at 45/1

I always enjoy following Sergio on courses where iron play is rewarded and that should be the case this week. Sergio hasn’t looked in the greatest of form of late and missed the cut last time out, but prior to that he was solid, if not spectacular with 4 successive finishes between 20th and 40th place.
