BettingDiaryWith the dramatic US PGA Championship now behind us attention moves to the Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina which plays host to the Wyndham Championship.

Sedgefield Country Club is a par 70 layout and is a course which favours accuracy over distance and this often means the long hitters given it a miss. There are small greens meaning your position in the fairway is important and the pros generally have no problem in getting hold of the course with winning scores often in excess of (-20).

A number of the big guns have decided not to play this week and local favourite, Webb Simpson currently heads the betting at 10/1. Brooks Koepka who went into the last round of the PGA Championship, the 2nd favourite, but fell to finish just within the Top 30 is 12/1 with Patrick Reed 16/1 and you can get 20/1 and better the balance.

Selections:

Tommy Fleetwood each way at 20/1

Fleetwood makes his debut at this course, but I think his game will be ideally suited. He showed up towards the top end of the leaderboard at the PGA Championship before eventually finishing in a tie for 29th.

Paul Casey each way at 20/1

Casey did absolutely nothing wrong last week in finishing runner-up in the PGA Championship and despite not breaking his Major duck I think he will take a lot from that performance. He now plays at a course where he has some really solid form with two Top 20’s and a Top 5 finish in his last 3 starts here. I think Casey will be buoyed by the fact that he was in contention last week rather than disappointed that he didn’t win and if he can carry that enthusiasm into this Tournament he must be a big runner.

Billy Horschel each way at 33/1

Horschel failed to fire last week at what is essentially a bombers paradise, but he did make the cut and prior to that had 3 successive Top 25 finishes on Tour. What gets me excited this week about Horschel is his course form and in the last 4 years he has had a Top 5, a Top 10 and a Top 15 finish. In fairness the bookies are on to this with his price of 33/1, but I still think he is worth a play.

Rory Sabbatini each way at 80/1

My first 3 selections are not right at the top end of the betting boards were fairly short priced at golf standards so I need to throw in a long shot here and Sabbatini fits the bill nicely. This ex-South African has excellent course form with 3 Top 10 finishes including a Top 5 finish in his last 4 starts here. Last year he finished 6th. His recent form has been poor which explains the big price, but some players have a habit of coming to hand at courses that they love and at 80/1 I am happy to take a chance on Sabbatini this week.
