BettingDiaryTuesday sees the 10th Stage of the Tour de France starting from Ile d’Oleron and finishing in Ile de Re and covering 170 kilometres. We take a look at the stage from a betting angle.

Stage 9 Wrap

Sunday’s 9th Stage was an absolute thriller and the break which everyone expected to get away just never materialised, unlike Stage 5 where the peloton decided to take things slow, this stage was totally the opposite and was raced at an absolute breakneck speed all the way from start to finish.

In the end it was Sunweb’s Marc Hirschi who managed to break clear a long way from the finish and he built himself a lead of 4.5 minutes at one point. He shortened in the stage betting to 5/10, but events behind then worked against him as Jumbo-Visna hurtled towards the final climb pulling the peloton behind them

With bonus seconds at the top of the climb there was a great battle between the Yellow Jersey contenders and with Hirschi clinging to a small lead at the top, he was being chased down by 4 of the Tour de France’s big guns. In the end he made the right call to sit up and slot in behind them and try to win the sprint and it looked for a while like he might get there, but Pogacar was too strong and claimed his first ever stage win.

Stage 10 looks one for the sprinters and it is very flat although the possibility of cross winds do exist. I think we may revert to the more traditional pattern of a weak breakaway going clear and being held at about 3 to 4 minutes for the majority of the stage before the sprinters teams pull things back together and we get a bunch gallop.

Stage 10 Verdict

Bennett looks a worthy favourite but he is too short for me and I prefer the 6/1 about Cees Bol. Bols has a strong lead out from his Sunweb team and if there are cross winds and echelons he has every chance of getting to the finish with the lead group.

This bet comes with a money back guarantee should he run 2nd – see details on the banner below.

Stage 10 Bets:

Bol win at 6/1

Match Bet Treble at 2.58/1: Bennett/Ewan x Bol/Pedersen x Mezgec/Hofstetter
