BettingDiaryThis weeks PGA event is the Travelers Championship which usually takes place after the US Open and the fact that it doesn’t this year is something that punters have to consider.

The Tournament is played over the Par 70 TPC River Highlands course in Cromwell, Connecticut.   The course was toughened up by narrowing the fairways a couple of years back, but that clearly hasn’t helped much and the players continue to shoot the lights out.

Despite the narrow fairways the landing areas are still fairly generous but the key stat here tends to be putting on the small, slightly slower than normal greens.

Looking at the outright betting, Bryson Dechambeau has been a mark of consistency and last weeks Top 10 was his 5th in succession, but also the first time he missed the Top 5 in those 4 Tournaments. He struggled over the weekend especially with the putter and could be worth taking on this week at his current price of 12/1.

Rory Mcilroy hasn’t shown me enough over the first two events since the break and I will swerve him at 12/1 and the man who shares joint favouritism with that pair at 12/1 is Justin Thomas another who has been in good form with a couple to Top 10’s since the Tour resumed. He has also been putting well and will have plenty of support this week.

Selections

Brooks Koepka each way at 20/1

Koepka is a man who tends to focus on the Majors, but he showed last week with a Top 10 finish that his game is getting up where he wants it to be. His course form here is average although he does have a Top 10 four years ago, but bear in mind that he has usually been contending or winning the US Open the week before this event, no such distractions this time.

Jordan Spieth each way at 40/1

I am going to give Spieth another chance this week as he is just showing glimmers of his previous form, all be it he did follow up the Top 10 at the Charles Schwab with a disappointing 68th place last week. He is a past winner here and remains a quality player who I believe will find his “A” game sooner rather than later.

J.T. Poston each way at 80/1

J.T. Poston has done nothing at this course to suggest he can win, but his current form is excellent with two Top 10’s in a row and the way he is playing I am more than happy to have him in this weeks staking plan.

Ian Poulter each way at 100/1

My money was on Poulter last week and he started off quickly, but unfortunately he faded to finish outside the Top 10. He seems to have found some of that Ryder Cup putting form though and while he doesn’t have any recent course form to speak of, at triple figure price I am prepared to have a nibble.

Dylan Frittelli each way at a 175/1

I normally restrict myself to 4 picks, but after the way the South African finished last week I have to include him as a patriotic punt. This is a course where players can go low and he will certainly come in full of confidence.
