We select 3 of Wednesday night’s Champions League matches and suggest a bet in each of them.
REAL MADRID v SHAKHTAR DONETSK – Click here to bet
Real Madrid are coming off a shock 1-0 home defeat to Cadiz in the League on the weekend. They previously won 3 and drawn 1 of their opening 4 League fixtures. Goals have been surprisingly hard to come by in Real Madrid matches and under 2.5 goal backers would have collected in the last 3 games.
Shakhtar Donetsk had no such problems in their domestic League, winning 5-1 at home on the weekend against Lviv. They have drawn 3 and won 2 of their last 5 League games.
These sides met in the 2015/2016 Champions League with Real Madrid winning both games and scoring 4 goals on each occasion.
BETTING
Real Madrid 1/4
Draw 11/2
Shakhtar Donetsk 10/1
Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 17/10
I am tempted by this one purely on the price as Real Madrid have not been in the greatest of form.
MANCHESTER CITY v FC PORTO – Click here to bet
Manchester City are coming off a hard fought 1-0 home win over Arsenal on the weekend. They certainly haven't been in the prolific goal scoring form you saw last year and the shock result which stands out when scanning their recent matches was a 5-2 home defeat to Leicester.
Porto come into this game in rather shaky form having drawn 2-2 all with Sporting on the weekend and prior to that, having lost 3-2 at home to Maritimo. Their last 4 matches in the League have seen over 3.5 goals scored in each.
BETTING
Manchester City 3/10
Draw 21/4
FC Porto 33/4
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Manchester City (-1) at 7/10
City will be highly focused on the European competition and although their form isn’t perfect, Porto appear to be battling at the moment and I think City can win this by more than a goal.
AJAX v LIVERPOOL – Click here to bet
Ajax warmed up for this game with a 5-1 home win over Heerenveen on the weekend and they previously lost 1-0 on the road to Groningen. That was their only loss in the last 3 months.
Liverpool’s title defence is not going quite as well as they might have hoped and they drew 2-2 away at Everton on the weekend and that came on the back of a shock 7-2 away defeat at Aston Villa.
BETTING
Ajax 67/20
Draw 67/20
Liverpool 7/10
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Ajax (+1) at 23/20
Liverpool haven't looked as sharp as they did last season and while that could change at any time, I like the chance of Ajax getting something out of this.
