WSB Logo Orange 80x80Stage 7 of the Vuelta a España starts in Utiel and ends in Oliva 200.8 kilometres later and Friday’s stage looks nailed on for a sprint finish.

STAGE 6 WRAP

The breakaway was always going to stand a good chance in Stage 6, but few would have predicted the early drama. We saw Jumbo-Visma get 3 riders into the break including the eventual stage winner, Sepp Kuss. Lenny Martinez from the Groupama-FDJ team finished 2nd and he now takes over the Red Jersey. There was plenty of action further down the road as Remco Evenepoel had a bad day losing 32 seconds to his rivals, Roglic and Vingegaard.

JERSEY UPDATE

Remco Evenepoel was happy to give up the Red Jersey, but had certainly not planned on losing time to his major rivals. He did fight back on the final climb though and at one point I thought he was going to lose somewhere in the region of 90 seconds, but he managed to minimise the damage. Jonas Vingegaard remains the even money favourite to win the race, but Roglic had his best day of the Tour so far and has shortened into 2/1 from 7/2 while Evenepoel is out from 2/1 to 5/1, Juan Ayuso and Sepp Kuss are both at 6/1 and you can get 28/1 and better the balance.

There was little movement in the King of the Mountains Classification although Sepp Kuss jumped up to 2nd place, 11 points behind Polka Dot Jersey wearer, Eduardo Sepulveda. Kaden Groves still has a firm hold on the Green Jersey and without even trying Jumbo-Visma are starting to dominate the Team competition.

THE ROUTE

The start is quite lumpy but the riders generally drop in altitude until they reach the 103 kilometre point where it is pretty much flat to the finish.

Kaden Groves has won 2 sprint stages in a row and both of those profiles are ones where things could have gone wrong for the sprinters teams. It will be a massive surprise if this ends in anything other than a sprint finish.

PREDICTION

The sprinters teams will keep this together for a bunch finish and Kaden Groves will win his 3rd consecutive sprint stage. I would normally be a bit reluctant to take 4/6 in a race of this nature, but with the Money Back for 2nd Insurance at World Sports Betting I am happy to have a proper go at Kaden Groves who looks by some distance the fastest sprinter here.

Suggested Bet: Kaden Groves win at 4/6
