Australia v Sri Lanka

Australia were firm favourites to win their opening match of the tournament against New Zealand at the SCG but they crashed and burned, going down by all of 89 runs. They won the toss and opted to bowl first but the decision back fired and the Black Caps posted 200/3 in their 20 overs. Hazlewood with 2/41 was the top Australian wicket taker. The chase hardly threatened and Australian were bowled out for 111 in 17.1 overs with Maxwell top scoring with 28.

This is how Australia lined up against New Zealand:

Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Sri Lanka came through qualifying the hard way. They were beaten by Namibia (55 runs) in their first match but regained their composure to get the better of UAE by 79 runs and the Netherlands by 16 runs. Their opening match in the S12 came against Ireland in Hobart on Sunday and they cruised to a 9 wicket victory. Ireland were restricted to 128/8 with Theekshana returning figures of 2/19 and Hasaranga 2/25. The chase was completed in 15 overs with Kusal Mendis top scoring, not out 68.

This is how Sri Lanka lined up against Ireland last time out:

Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Ashen Bandara, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara

The Betting

Australia are currently trading at around 2/9 to win the game and Sri Lanka can be backed at around 7/2

David Warner is 23/10 to top score for Australia and Kusal Mendis and Nissanka are both 7/2 to do likewise for Sri Lanka

The Verdict

There is plenty of pressure already on Australia after a hiding in their first match which damages net run rate and leaves little margin for error.

I'm looking to the top Sri Lanka bat market and Charith Asalanka gets the vote after he made an unbeaten 31 in the win over Ireland when batting at 3. Spin played a big part in helping SL win that game but the one match at Perth so far saw England's Sam Curran take 5 wickets. If there is any swing on offer Lahiru Kumara's price to be top SL bowler might look big.

Bets: Top Sri Lanka Batsman Charith Asalanka at 4/1

Top Sri Lanka Wicket Taker, Lahiru Kumara at 5/1
