CWC SouthAfrica150Old Trafford, Manchester is the venue for the second ODI between England and South Africa on Friday and the Proteas are 1-0 up in the series with two to play

The series opener was staged at Chester le Street on Tuesday, England were short price favourites at around 5/10 but South Africa ran out comfortable winners by a 62 run margin.

The Proteas won the toss and opted to bat first and they posted a more than healthy 333/5. Rassie van der Dussen, batting at 3, top scored with 134, opening bat Janneman Malan made 57 and Aiden Markram made 77. Surprisingly for a big total there were no sixes in the entire innings.

England's reply got off to a solid start with Roy (43) and Bairstow (63) posting a century partnership. Joe Root top scored with 86 but outside of the top 3 in the batting order England fell away and from 142/2 at one stage the innings closed on 271 all out. Nortje claimed 4 wickets and there were 2 a piece for Shamsi and Markram. Skipper Maharaj was economical with figures of 1/42.

This was how the sides lined up on Tuesday and note Ben Stokes has now retired from ODI cricket.

At the time of writing England are 6/10 to win the match and South Africa are 13/10

Bairstow and Root are both trading at 3/1 to top score for England and van der Dussen, de Kock and Markram are all the same price to do likewise for South

Africa

England are 4/6 to hit the most sixes and South Africa are 13/8 with a tie at 13/2.

The Verdict

England have been more miss than hit in white ball cricket over the course of the last month or so but I was still surprised to see the Proteas win the first ODI in such a comfortable fashion.

I will first look to the Player Performance market where points are awarded as follows:

Total Points. Run = 1pt. Catch = 10pts. Wicket = 20pts. Stumping = 25pts

Jos Buttler's current quote of over 43.5 looks beatable to me.

With the pressure on to square the series I can see one of the England batsman scoring big and I like the 6/4 about an England centurion.

Bets: Player Performance, Jos Buttler, over 43.5 pts at 17/20

Century scored by England? Yes at 6/4.
