CWC India150The second ODI between India and England takes place in Pune on Friday and India are 1-0 up with two to play.

India won the test series at the start of this tour 3-1 and the T20 series went to the wire with India coming out on top 3-2. Pune is the venue for all 3 of the ODI's and on Tuesday India won the opening contest by 66 runs.

England won the toss and opted to field in the first ODI and on a good deck for batting India posted a total of 317/5.

Dhawan top scored with 98, Kohli made 56 and KL Rahul (62 not out) and Krunal Pandya (58 not out) provided the acceleration later on to take India to healthy total. Ben Stokes with 3/34 from 8 overs was the pick of the England bowlers.

England raced out of the blocks in their reply with Roy and Bairstow putting on 136 for the first stick in just 14.2 overs. Roy (42) was first to go and although Bairstow went on to make 94, England squandered their advantage, all out for 251 in 42.1 overs. Prasidh Krishna took 4 wickets, Shardul Thakur took 3 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the most economical bowler by some distance with figures of 2/30 from his 9 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan was Man of the Match and as far as the six hitting was concerned India cleared the ropes 8 times whilst England hit 10 and 7 of those came from Bairstow.

This was how the teams lined up in the first ODI.

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna

England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Ben Stokes, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Recent Head to Head

Aside from Tuesday's match the most recent meeting came in the World Cup of 2019 in Birmingham and England defended 337/7 for a 31 run victory with Bairstow top scoring 111 and Rohit Sharma made 102 for India,

In July 2018 England won a home series 2-1.

England's ODI squad was last in India in January 2017, a series India won 2-1.

The Verdict:

England will be kicking themselves for not getting the job done on Tuesday after the whirlwind start from Roy and Bairtsow and they have to win this to make Sunday's final match a series decider.

I think India might have more improvement to come but they are short enough in the match result betting and I will look to the 6's markets.

England hit the most 6's on Tuesday but that was largely down to one man and I prefer India at even money this time around.

Bet: To hit the most sixes, India at even money
