Joburg Super Kings vs MI Cape Town

Joburg Super Kings

The Super Kings were due to play in the opening match against the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Wednesday but bad weather saw the match abandoned without a ball being bowled.

No toss took place so we have no insight into what the Super Kings line up would have been although this is the squad they have available.

Faf du Plessis(c), Reeza Hendricks, Leus du Plooy, Donovan Ferreira(w), Moeen Ali, Romario Shepherd, Kyle Simmonds, Gerald Coetzee, Lizaad Williams, Nandre Burger, Imran Tahir, Wayne Madsen, Aaron Phangiso, David Wiese, Dayyaan Galiem, Sibonelo Makhanya, Zahir Khan, Sam Cook, Ronan Hermann

The Super Kings now look forward to kick starting their tournament and a reminder that they reached the semi finals last season where they were beaten by the Sunrisers.

MI Cape Town

After failing to make the semi finals last season MI Cape Town began their tournament away to the Super Giants in Durban on Thursday and they lost by 11 runs (DLS). MI were invited to bat first and Rickelton smashed 87 off 51 balls including 6 of his sides 13 maximums as the innings closed on 207/5.

At 12/2 in the chase Durban were in trouble but Klaasen hit 85 off just 35 balls and the home side were in front on DLS at 177/6 off 16.3 overs when rain arrived and cut the game short.

This is how MI Cape Town lined up in their opening game

Dewald Brevis, Connor Esterhuizen, Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickelton (wk), Liam Livingstone, Kieron Pollard (c), Thomas Kaber, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Beuran Hendricks, Olly Stone

Did not play: Grant Roelofsen, George Linde, Duan Jansen, Nuwan Thushara, Tom Banton, Delano Potgieter, Chris Benjamin, Nealan van Heerden

The Betting

The Super Kings are currently trading at around 0.92/1 to win the game and MI Cape Town can be backed at the same price

The Verdict

MI Cape Town were a touch unlucky to run into Klaasen and then rain in their opening game. They certainly batted well enough and given they have an outing

under their belts I fancy them to win here.

Bets: MI Cape Town to win at 0.92/1 with Betway

Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Durban Super Giants

Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The Sunrisers are the defending champions having won the inaugural SA20 last year and the locals get another chance to see their side in action after Wednesday's clash with the Super Kings at this venue was washed out.

This is the squad the Sunrisers have assembled for 2024.

Adam Rossington(w), Temba Bavuma, Dawid Malan, Aiden Markram(c), Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Simon Harmer, Tom Abell, Ottniel Baartman, Liam Dawson, Ayabulela Gqamane, Sarel Erwee, Patrick Kruger, Beyers Swanepoel, Andile Simelane, Caleb Seleka, Jordan Hermann

Durban Super Giants

After missing out on a semi final spot last season by the narrowest of margins the Super Giants began their campaign at home to MI Cape Town on Thursday and as mentioned above they came out on top by 11 runs (DLS) with Heinrich Klaasen named Man of the Match.

This was how the Super Giants lined up in their opening game.

Quinton de Kock (wk), Matthew Breetzke, Nicholas Pooran, Heinrich Klaasen, Wiaan Mulder, Prenelan Subrayen, Dwaine Pretorius, Keemo Paul, Keshav Maharaj (c), Reece Topley, Richard Gleeson

Did not play: Kyle Mayers, JJ Smuts, Jason Smith, Junior Dala, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Kyle Abbott, Bryce Parsons

The Betting

The Sunrisers are currently trading at around even money to win the game and the Durban Super Giants can be backed at around 17/20

The Verdict

I'm really struggling to favour either side here and I will venture into the exotics for a bet.

Nicholas Pooran of the Super Giants came in at No 6 in their opening match and my gut feel is he will move up the order a place or 2. Either way, I fancy him to beat his total runs quote of 20.5

Bets: Nicholas Pooran total runs over 20.5 at 0.83/1 with Betway
