Note, this game was originally scheduled to take place on Friday at Newlands but was postponed after a Proteas player tested positive for Covid, the remainder of the original preview below will hopefully still be of some use.

England won the T20 series at the start of this tour with a 3-0 clean sweep. This behind closed doors 3 match series will also be staged in the Western Cape with the second match taking place on Monday at Newlands and the third match also in Cape Town on Wednesday of next week.

Recent ODI Form

The Proteas hosted England in February this year and the series was drawn 1-1. SA won the first match, at Newlands, by 7 wickets, no result was possible in Durban and England squared things up with a 2 wicket win at The Wanderers. Shortly after the Proteas completed a 3-0 clean sweep of Australia in a home series.

In July / August this year England beat Ireland 2-1 and since then they lost another home series 2-1 to Australia.

Overall Head to Head

Overall the teams have met 63 times. South Africa have won 30 England have won 28 and we have seen 1 tie and 4 no results.

The Betting, 1st ODI Match Result

The Verdict:

Although Jason Roy was battling in the T20's and Stokes and Malan are not involved there is still plenty of hitting power in that England line up and the visitors to hit the most 6's at 8/10 stood out to me.

Jonny Bairstow, who seems to like Newlands, gets the vote to beat a total runs quote which doesn't look to be overly high.

Bets: Most match 6's England at 8/10

Jonny Bairstow total runs over 33.5 at 17/20
