New Zealand v Australia, Sydney

These 2 sides contested the final in 2021 with Australia coming out on top by 8 wickets to land their first World T20 title. New Zealand have never won this competition and the 2021 edition is the only time they have reached the final.

Recent Form

New Zealand lost their first warm up match to South Africa by a 9 wicket margin after they were bowled out for just 98. and a subsequent warm up against India was completely washed out. The Black Caps hosted a tri-series with Pakistan and Bangladesh earlier this month. They beat Bangladesh twice and won and lost to Pakistan in the round robin stage before Pakistan won the final by 5 wickets.

Australia's most recent warm up saw them lose to India by 6 runs as they came up just short chasing 187 for victory. A 3 match series at home to England earlier this month saw England win the first 2 matches, both by 8 run margins, and no result was possible in the third match. At the start of this month Australia were 2-0 winners at home to West Indies.

The Betting

New Zealand are currently trading at around 7/4 to win the game and Australia can be backed at around 11/25

Looking at the long term betting markets Conway and Guptill are 5/2 joint favourites to be top NZ run scorer in the tournament and Trent Boult is 9/4 to be their leading wicket taker.

Warner is 6/4 favourite to be the top Australian run scorer in the tournament whilst Hazlewood, Starc and Zampa are all priced at 11/4 to be their leading wicket taker.

The Verdict

As defending champions and host nation expectations will be high in Australia. They have a decent pace attack to support the spin of Zampa and 6 squad

members are classed as all rounders.

Kane Williamson's New Zealand side haven't had the best sequence of results in their preparations, the real business starts here and although these sides haven't

met since last years final, Australia have won 10 of the 15 head to heads with NZ winning 4 and we have seen 1 tie.

Australia look the stronger side but my focus is on the exotics and a couple of “Kane's”.

I'm second guessing line ups to some degree but hoping Kane Richardson plays for Australia after a 4 wicket haul in their most recent warm up. On experience alone Kane Williamson is the choice as top NZ run scorer.

Bets: Top Australian Bowler Kane Richardson at 15/4 with Sunbet

Top NZ run scorer Kane Williamson at 7/2 with Sunbet

Later on Saturday Afghanistan (9/2) take on a powerful England (2/15) side in another Group 1 clash in Perth and those odds in brackets suggest a one sided

contest.
