Arsenal 9/20 Draw 4/1 Newcastle 5/1

After losing their first 3 league matches of the season Arsenal put together an 8 match unbeaten run (6 wins and 2 draws) before they crashed and burned 4-0 at Liverpool last weekend. Despite that defeat they remain fifth in the standings, 9 points off the pace being set by Chelsea and 3 shy of fourth placed West Ham. Recent results at home include wins over Watford (1-0) and Villa (3-1). The Gunners have also beaten Norwich and Spurs at the Emirates Stadium but they did lose 2-0 to Chelsea here early in the season.

Preparations for Eddie Howe's first match in charge of Newcastle, at home to Brentford, were disrupted when he contracted Covid and his new side took a point from a 3-3 draw. That point wasn't enough to keep Newcastle off the bottom of the log and with 6 draws and 6 defeats against their name they remain the only top flight side without a win.

Away from home Newcastle have taken points from Watford, Palace and Brighton (all 1-1) and they were beaten at Villa (2-0), Manchester United (4-1) and Wolves (2-1).

The Verdict:

Newcastle created plenty last week but their big problem is in defence with 27 conceded in 12 matches. Arsenal should be good enough to take advantage of that but poor as they have been Newcastle have a knack of contributing to the scoring. I fancy a home win but with Newcastle contributing.

Bets: Arsenal to win and both teams to score? (yes) at 1.85/1

Brighton even money Draw 5/2 Leeds 11/4

Brighton were beaten 2-0 at Villa last week and they have slipped back towards mid table. Prior to that they had drawn 5 of their last 6 and were unbeaten on the road but you have to go back to 19th September for their last 3 point haul, 2-1 at home to Leicester. Everton (2-0) and Manchester City (4-1) have both won here this season and visits from Arsenal and Newcastle ended in draws.

Injury hit Leeds took a first half lead at Spurs last week but they eventually went down 2-1 when they certaainly deserved something from the game. With 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in their last 6 league games Leeds now have a tally of 11 points from 12 matches and they are fourth from bottom, 2 points clear of third bottom Burnley. A 2-1 win at Norwich is their only victory on the road this season and they drew at Burnley and Newcastle (both 1-1).

The Verdict:

A Leeds team sheet would be a handy weapon to have although at the time of writing they were expecting to have key man Raphinha available after illness and when he is firing they are a big threat.

Brighton are a tidy side but wins have dried up of late and I'm going to chance my arm with Leeds scoring at least twice.

Bets: Leeds total goals over 1.5 at 2/1
