PortugalEuroEuropean Championship Group F contains three big guns and the opening match sees Hungary take on defending champions Portugal in Budapest on Tuesday.

Group F Betting Update

To top this quartet Germany are priced at around 11/8 with France at a similar price. Portugal are a 7/2 chance and you can get 33/1 and upwards about Hungary. With best third place finishers going through all 3 of the fancied sides are deep in the red to qualify for the knockout rounds and Hungary are 4/1 to make it beyond the group stage.

Hungary

Despite finishing fourth in their qualifying group, 5 points behind Croatia, 2 behind Wales and 1 shy of Slovakia, the Hungarians qualified for the play offs where they won 2-1 in Bulgaria and 3-1 against Iceland. They won 4 and drew 4 of their group qualifiers scoring just 8 goals and conceding 11 and half of those 8 goals scored came against Azerbaijan who were the whipping boys. Home wins over Wales and Croatia are the most eye catching results.

Hungary's early World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign started with a 3-3 draw at home to Poland followed by wins in San Marino (3-0) and Andorra (4-1).

In a couple of recent warm ups Hungary beat Cyprus 1-0 and drew 0-0 with the Republic of Ireland.

Hungary's odds to win the tournament are around 500/1

Portugal

Portugal finished as runners up in their qualification group, 3 points shy of Ukraine and 3 ahead of Serbia with Luxembourg and Lithuania never a factor. Their only defeat came in Ukraine and they also drew home games with the group winners and Serbia.

World Cup 2022 qualifying started with a 1-0 home win over Azerbaijan, a 2-2 draw in Serbia and a 3-1 win in Luxembourg.

The most notable recent friendly matches saw Portugal draw 0-0 with Spain and they beat Israel 4-0.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Portugal are trading at around 8/1

The Betting

Hungary are priced at around 6.25/1 to win the game with the draw at 3.35/1 and Portugal can be backed at around 5/10

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 19/20 and it's 23/20 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

Although recent WCQ's have been high scoring Hungary found goals hard to come by in qualifying for these finals and it goes without saying they have been handed a place in the toughest of groups. In their favour they play all their group matches in Budapest and Portugal's recent results have hardly inspired confidence.

With the likes of Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Bernado Silva in their ranks I think Portugal will have too much for their opponents and I'll take them to lead at half time and full time.
