PolandEuroEuropean Championship Group E gets under way on Monday, it's a pretty competitive looking quartet and the first match sees Poland clash with Slovakia in Saint Petersburg.

Group E Betting Update

Spain are the favourites to top this quartet at around 3/10 with Poland next best at 11/2, Sweden 6/1 and Slovakia are trading at around 16/1.

Poland

In qualifying for these finals Poland finished top of their group, 6 points clear of Austria with North Macedonia and Slovenia further back along with Israel and Latvia made up the numbers. Poland won 8 of their matches, drawing 1 and losing 1 and they scored 18 goals and conceded just 5.

Poland's early World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign started with a 3-3 draw in Hungary followed by a 3-0 home win over Andorra and a 2-1 defeat to England at Wembley.

In a couple of recent warm ups Poland drew 1-1 with Russia and 2-2 with Iceland.

Poland's odds to win the tournament are around 80/1

Slovakia

Slovakia finished third in a tight qualification group, 4 points behind Croatia and 1 behind Wales with Hungary on their heels in fourth and Azerbaijan were never in the hunt. They won 4, drew 1 and lost 3 of their matches and they took just 1 point from their 4 clashes with the top 2 finishers. Slovakia then entered the play offs where they beat Republic of Ireland on penalty kicks and then Northern Ireland, 2-1 in extra time.

World Cup 2022 qualifying started with draws in Cyprus (0-0) and at home to Malta (2-2) before a much improved display in a 2-1 home win over Russia.

The most notable recent friendly matches saw Slovakia draw 1-1 with Bulgaria and 0-0 with Austria.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Slovakia are trading at around 400/1

The Betting

Poland are trading at around 0.83 to win the game with the draw at 23/10 and Slovakia can be backed at around 4/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 13/10 and it's 11/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

On paper, and form Slovakia look the weakest side in this group so Poland need to get off to a flyer and I fancy they have enough to come out on top. A recent WCQ in England saw the Poles put in a decent shift for much of the game before they came unstuck late on. They were solid but not spectacular in a pretty weak qualifying group but I still fancy them to make a winning start.

Bets: Poland to win at 0.83/1
