SpainEuroBoth Spain and Poland let favourite backers down in their opening European Championship matches and the pressure is on as they prepare for Saturday's Group E clash in Seville.

Group E Betting Update

The opening round of matches in this group saw Slovakia beat Poland 2-1 and the game between Spain and Sweden finished without a goal. In terms of the betting to top this group Spain remain the favourites at around 4/10 with Sweden 9/2, Slovakia are trading at around 5/1 and Poland are 20/1.

To qualify for the knockout rounds, either in the top 2 or as a best third place finisher Sweden and Slovakia are both 1 / 4 and Poland are 11/4.

Spain

Spain had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Sweden in their opening match of the tournament at this venue, a game they started as odds on favourites to win at around 9/20. They boasted an incredible 85% of possession and had 17 attempts at goal with 5 on target but they failed to register a breakthrough. Morata missed arguably their best chance and there were 2 scares at the other end of the pitch with Sweden hitting the post in the first half and then missing a golden opportunity in the second on their rare foray's forward.

Victory here would put Spain back on track ahead of their final group match with Slovakia.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Spain can be backed at around 8/1

Poland

Whilst Spain still have no reason to panic in terms of their chances of making the last 16 Poland have plenty to worry about having lost their opening game 2-1 to group outsiders Slovakia in Saint Petersburg.

Goalkeeper Szczesny was unfortunate to concede an own goal on 18 minutes after a shot rebounded off the post, onto him and ultimately into the net. Early in the second half Linetty equalized for the Poles but the game changed again when Krychowiak picked up a second yellow and Poland were down to 10 men for the last half hour or so. Poland paid the price, conceding on 69 minutes and there was to be no way back.

Poland had been second favourites (behind Spain) in this group and they were odds on at around 0.83 to make a winning start. After this they still have a clash with Sweden to come but if they lose again here they would most likely need a resounding win in that maatch to have any chance of making the last 16 as a best third place finisher.

In the outright betting to win the tournament Poland can be backed at around 150/1.

The Betting

Spain are trading at around 7/20 to win the game with the draw at 4/1 and Poland can be backed at around 7.75/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 15/20 and it's 11/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

Slovakia's win over Poland was a real curve ball in terms of how this group was expected to play out and the Poles are really up against it now.

Meanwhile Spain must be wondering on how they failed to turn possession into goals against the Swede's but they also came close to conceding in that game.

I'll be surprised if Spain fire blanks again but Poland's situation is pretty desperate and in the circumstances I'm happy to chance my arm with both teams to find a

goal.
