WalesEuroThe second round of European Championship Group A matches take place on Wednesday including what looks likely to be a tight game between Turkey and Wales in Baku, Azerbaijan

Group A Betting Update

Italy are in early control of the group with 3 points, Switzerland and Wales have 1 point each and Turkey are yet to open their account.

Remember the are four best third place finish places available to reach the knockout rounds and Turkey are trading at around even money to make it through the same price as Wales.

Turkey

Turkey were handed a tough task in their opening match of the tournament against in form Italy in Rome and they were found wanting, going down 3-0. It was 0-0 at half time before an own goal early in the second half followed by 2 more saw the Italian's full value for a comfortable win and it leaves Turkey with plenty to do if they are to make the last 16.

Turkey had 37% of the possession against Italy and failed to register an attempt on target and they also “lost” the corner count 8-2. It was a disappointing display given they had won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their qualifying matches where their stand out results included a 2-0 home win over France and they also drew the return with the French 1-1.

Turkey's odds to win the tournament are now around 90/1

Wales

Wales began their campaign against Switzerland at this venue in Baku and they ought to have been very satisfied to take a point from a 1-1 draw. Switzerland had the better of the chances and took the lead just after half time but a goal from Kieffer Moore on 74 minutes squared things up and thereafter Wales dug in and held on for the draw.

Wales registered 2 attempts on target and had just 36% of possession against the Swiss and they conceded from 1 of 12 corners their opponents had forced. Gareth Bale finished the 90 minutes and Aaron Ramsey played virtually the whole game so their key men have minutes under their belts.

Wales' odds to win the tournament are around 160/1

The Betting

Turkey are trading at around 1.44/1 to win the game with the draw at 9/4 and Wales can be backed at around 2.33/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 1.62/1 and it's 12/10 for both teams to score.

The Verdict:

Turkey didn't offer enough first time out for me to fancy them to get the better of a Wales side who certainly have staying power.

Wales remaining in Baku is another factor in their favour but they do still have to face Italy and they can't afford to lose this.

I'm going with a draw and additional interest in Wales to score 1 goal exactly.

Bets: Match Result draw at 9/4

Wales exact number of goals, 1 at 1.38/1
