European Tour action takes place at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai this weekend, as the AVIV Dubai Championship returns for the second tour. Tensions will be high at the event this weekend, as it is the final event before the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai is staged next weekend.
The AVIV Dubai Championship was only formed in 2020, and was known as the Golf in Dubai Championship presented by DP World 12 months ago. Some of the world’s best players will once again embark on the United Arab Emirates, for the event, which has a part 72. A prize fund of $1.5 million is available to players in this stroke play event.
Last year’s winner was Antione Rozner, who ended up scoring 263, which saw him win by two strokes. There was a four-way tie for second in the event, with Francesco Laporta, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, Andy Sullivan and Matt Wallace all finishing in second 12 months ago.
Outright Winner Betting
There looks set to be a close finish to the event this weekend, and the betting would suggest that. Tommy Fleetwood is currently the 11/1 favourite in the BetXchange betting markets, with Paul Casey also an 11/1 chance. Fleetwood should come into the event in good confidence after finishing in a tie for seventh in the Zozo Championship in October. He finished five under par at that event, and will go well again this weekend.
Matt Wallace is the player that interests us most in the outright betting. He was in a tie for second in the event last year, and has shown some excellent form in recent months. After failing to make the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship, he finished in a tie for 14th in Shriners Children’s Open and then improved that to finish in a tie for fourth at the Zozo Championship.
Pick: Matt Wallace at 20/1 with BetXchange.
Top 5 Finish Betting
The top five betting also looks an intriguing market for the AVIV Dubai Championship this weekend. Wallace is available at 11/2, while we would be looking further down the market for some value. Andy Sullivan could be an interesting contender after finishing second here last year. Course experience could be a factor, and that makes him a solid contender to finish in the top five.
Martin Kaymer is also a lucrative 9/1 to finish in the top five of the event this weekend. The German has previously won eleven events on the European Tour, but hasn’t come out on top since the US Open in 2014. He was second at the BMW International Open in June, and has made the cut in each of his last nine appearances on the European Tour, with his best finish coming when in a tie for 18th in the Omega European Masters in August.
Min Woo Lee may also be a solid contender to finish in the top five. The Australian is currently sixth on the Race to Dubai leaderboard, and has won two European Tour events to date. He was most recently the winner of the Aberdeen Scottish Open, and finished eighth in the Portugal Masters at the beginning of November.
Pick: Min Woo Lee Top Five Finish at 11/2 with BetXchange.
Pick: Martin Kaymer Top Five Finish at 9/1 with BetXchange.
