Tournament Preview

The KLM Dutch Open has been a staple on the European Tour since 1972 and once again it has managed to entice an attractive field in 2021. The Bernardus Golf Course will host the event for the first time as some of the top players across Europe and further afield descend on the Dutch capital. Previous winners of the event include Seve Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke and the competitions standing on the European Tour continues to grow every season. With a prize purse of 1 million euros, there is plenty to play for on the European Tour Money List too.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

Whilst the course has a distinctly European feel, how each player adapts to the conditions is sure to have a huge bearing on the outcome at the Bernardus Course this week:-

Thomas Pieters – 12/1

Big-hitting Belgian Thomas Pieters is a previous winner at this event, and he looks to have a great chance in an open field here at the Bernardus Course.

Branden Grace – 14/1

South African Branden Grace is always a player to watch in any event he plays and conditions here at the Dutch Open should certainly suit his game.

Andrew Johnston – 25/1

‘Beef’ as he’s affectionately known has been finding form in recent weeks on the European Tour and he could sneak under the radar somewhat at the Dutch Open this week.

Joost Luiten – 25/1

Home favourite Joost Luiten is a two-time winner of the Dutch Open and having missed out over the past couple of seasons, he will be keen to pick up a third tournament win here.

Marcel Siem – 35/1

Experienced German Marcel Siem is a man in form on the European Tour and his ball-striking abilities make him a serious contender in any event he plays.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-

Sam Horsfield – 25/1

Young Englishman Sam Horsfield is one of the leading crop of British golfers heading the next generation on the European Tour and he has enjoyed some excellent performances this season.

Thomas Detry – 25/1

Impressive Belgian Thomas Detry is generally a pillar of consistency on the European Tour his game looks tailor made for the course here at the Bernardus Course.

Rory Sabbatini – 25/1

Fresh off the back of his Olympic silver medal for Slovakia, Rory Sabbatini looks set to challenge again on the European Tour and he could be raring to go here at the Dutch Open.

Top Ten Finish

With so many quality players assembled here at the Bernardus, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-

George Coetzee – 5/1

South African George Coetzee is a fierce competitor, and he could be in contention all the way through the tournament in the Netherlands this week.

Graeme McDowell – 7/1

Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell isn’t set to be involved at the Ryder Cup next week and how he would love to put a performance on the board here at the Dutch Open.

Jack Senior – 12/1
