Tournament Preview
Following the Players’ Championship last weekend, attention now turns towards the Masters on the PGA Tour and there are plenty of players looking to put themselves into contention at the Honda Classic. An event that has regularly jostled for position in the PGA Tour calendar, the Honda Classic has been on the tour since 1972 and the impressive alumni that have won the event is testament to the events’ status on the tour. Rory McIlroy, Vijay Singh, Fred Couples and Jack Nicklaus are all previous winners of the event and with $7 million in the prize pot this week, it should be a superb weekend of golf.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Plenty of the biggest names on the PGA Tour feature here in Florida and they will be keen to get their hands on some silverware here:-
With a win on the PGA Tour already under his belt this season, Daniel Berger is a man in form, and he heads up a strong field here at Palm Beach.
Defending champion Sungjae Im won well in this event in 2020 and with some impressive showings so far this year too, he could be very much in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
Young Chilean Joaquin Niemann is a prolific performer on the PGA Tour, and he could go well this week after a couple of decent runs in his last two events.
Despite running out of steam on Sunday afternoon in his last two events, Lee Westwood is banging on the door on the PGA Tour, as the veteran looks for his 3rd win on American soil.
American Talor Gooch was right in the mix at the Player’s Championship last weekend and he could build on his strong showing in favourable conditions at Palm Beach this week.
1st Round Leader
The whole field here in Florida will believe they can get off to a strong start and if they do so they could set themselves up for the week ahead:
Defending Open champion Shane Lowry put in a good showing in Florida last weekend and with conditions set to be similar here, he could be a tough man to stop.
American Cameron Tringale has been knocking at the door in every event he has played in recent weeks and he could get off to a flyer again here.
Despite fading badly on Sunday, Doug Ghim mixed it with some of the very best in the world at the Players’ Championship last weekend and he should take confidence from that here.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Florida, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday afternoon:-
Russell Henley hasn’t enjoyed the best start to 2021 but his golf is well suited to conditions here in Florida and he could be in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
Australian Cameron Davis has been the pillar of consistency on the PGA Tour this term and he could be in the mix in another big event here.
American Rickie Fowler has fallen from the top table of elite golf over the past 12 months, but he returns to an event he has won before and he could see this as his chance to find form once more.
