Golf: PGA Tour Rocket Mortgage Classic

Venue: Detroit Golf Club, Michigan
Dates: Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th July 2020

Tournament Preview

The PGA Tour has now been back up and running for a month and despite no fans being allowed into to watch the action live, the usual array of thrills and spills have been present throughout. Detroit is the next stop, as the tour continues to roll across America and the Rocket Mortgage Classic promises to be another stellar week of golf. The event is one of the newest on the tour, having only been launched in 2019 and with defending champion Nate Lashley in the field, there are plenty of names in contention to take home the $1.35 winners’ cheque.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

Most of the major players on the PGA Tour look to be finding their rhythm, which should set up an excellent week of golf here in Detroit:

Bryson DeChambeau – 6.00

With three consecutive top 10 finishes since the season restart, Bryson DeChambeau has been in incredible form and his extra 20kg of muscle mass gained during lockdown, is making him a leading candidate in every event he plays.

Webb Simpson – 14.00

Fresh of his win at the RBC Heritage a fortnight ago, Webb Simpson continues to perform regularly on the PGA Tour, and few would bet against him contending all the way this week in Detroit.

Tyrrell Hatton – 18.00

Fiery Englishman Tyrrell Hatton finished 3rd in his return to action at the RBC Heritage and he is playing from a career high 15th in the world rankings, making him a real contender here.

Patrick Reed – 18.00

World number 7 Patrick Reed has struggled for consistency in recent times, but he has a game made for the course here in Detroit and if he turns it on, he can be very hard to stop.

Will Gordon – 95.00

Impressive young American Will Gordon has looked completely at home on the PGA Tour this year and his 3rd place at the Travellers last week could be a real sign of things to come.

1st Round Leader

With players still trying to find momentum within their respective seasons, getting off to a fast start could be hugely important here in Detroit:

Tony Finau – 40.00

World number 17 Tony Finau has managed 3 top 10 finishes this season and despite only having registered one tournament win in his PGA Tour career, he is a ruthless competitor.

Kevin Na – 45.00

Kevin Na continues to perform regularly on the PGA Tour and his form at the Travellers last week (finishing 5th) should give him momentum as he arrives in Detroit.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello– 66.00

European Ryder Cup regular Rafa Cabrera-Bello showed glimpses of his best golf last week at the Travellers, shooting 6 under on the final day and he arrives in Detroit in good form.

Top 10 Finish

With so many good players assembled here in Detroit, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:

Viktor Hovland – 1.90

Young Norwegian Viktor Hovland has enjoyed three consecutive top 25 finishes since the season restart and his 11th place finish at the Travellers last weekend was particularly impressive.

Rickie Fowler – 3.00

Despite no real form to speak of, Rickie Fowler is a golfer more than capable of turning it on at any stage and he should relish the course and the field he is up against here in Detroit.

Brendon Todd – 5.00

Few players have demonstrated the consistency on the PGA Tour that Brendon Todd has enjoyed in recent seasons and although he faded badly at the Travellers on Sunday, he could be in contention here.

BetXChange Best Bets:

Outright Winner: Bryson DeChambeau – 6.00

1st Round Leader:  Kevin Na – 45.00

Top Ten Finish: Viktor Hovland – 1.90
