Golf: Porsche European Open

Venue: Green Eagle Golf Club, Germany.
Dates: Thursday 3rd – Sunday 6th June 2021

Tournament Preview

The European Tour continues with the Porsche European Open in Northern Germany. Having had many guises on the tour since 1978, the event continues to hold significant prestige across the continent. Previous winners of the tournament that has been held in both England and Germany, include some of the stalwarts of the European Tour such as Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, and Lee Westwood. With over 1.5 million Euros in the prize kitty and a strong field, it should be an excellent weekend of golf in Germany.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

It has been a fascinating start to the year on the European Tour and some of the competition’s biggest names will be hoping to find form in Germany: –

Paul Casey – 7.00

Englishman Paul Casey usually plies his trade on the PGA Tour, but he won this very event in 2020 and with a game that goes well in all conditions, he could be tough to stop this week.

Abraham Ancer – 9.00

Mexican Abraham Ancer has been putting in some superb performances for the past 12 months on both the PGA and European Tours and he is a strong contender in every field he’s in.

Bernd Wiesberger – 15.00

Following his win in Denmark last weekend, Bernd Wiesberger looks to be finding his top form on the European Tour once more and few are better across the continent than the Austrian.

Matthias Schwab – 22.00

Matthias Schwab is a real prospect on the European Tour, and few would bet against him backing up his top 10 last time out in Denmark with a win here.

Kurt Kitayama – 40.00

American Kurt Kitayama has been well and truly in the mix in every event he plays on the European Tour and he will be one to watch here.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-

Thorbjorn Olesen – 40.00

Dane Thorbjorn Olesen has been plagued with off-course incidents in recent times, but he has a game capable of competing in any tournament in the world.

Henrik Stenson – 55.00

Swede Henrik Stenson has struggled to find his best form over the past 18 months, but his game is as good as any on his day, and he could relish playing conditions this week.

Connor Syme – 70.00

Young Englishman Connor Syme is a huge talent, and his playing capacity continues to grow on the European Tour, making him a strong candidate to go well this week.

Top Ten Finish

With so many decent players assembled here in Germany, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-

Martin Kaymer – 3.00

German Martin Kaymer is a model of consistency on both the European and PGA Tours and he will be backed by home support here in Germany.

Joost Luiten – 3.50

Dutchman Joost Luiten is a serial winner on the European Tour, and he will be doing all he can to fire himself up the rankings here with a strong week.

Thomas Detry – 4.50

Thomas Detry was one of the men to beat on the European Tour last season and he could well be a good bet to be involved at the business end of proceedings in Germany this week.

BetXChange Best Bets:

Outright Winner: Paul Casey – 7.00

1st Round Leader:  Thorbjorn Olesen – 40.00

Top Ten Finish: Joost Luiten – 3.50
