Originally known as the Hawaiian Open, it has been coined the Sony Open since 1999 and it continues to attract a stellar field. Previous winners of the event include Justin Thomas, Ernie Els and Vijay Singh, testament to the prestige and importance placed on the Sony Open within the PGA Tour calendar. With a prize fund of $6.6 million and with almost $1.2 million going to the winner of the event, the stakes are high in Hawaii this week and it promises to be a fascinating 4 days of golf.

The Sony Open has attracted a very strong field to Hawaii and there will be plenty of household names wanting to take home the spoils:-
A pillar of consistency, Webb Simpson continues to be one of the men to beat on the PGA Tour and with no missed cuts since June 2020 – he could be a leading contender in Honolulu this week.
World number 5 Collin Morikawa looked in good nick last week with his top 10 finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and he will be looking to add to his growing tournament win tally here.
Emerging American Daniel Berger has enjoyed a consistent 12 months on the PGA Tour and sits 13th in the world rankings as a result and he will be looking to back up his 10th place showing last time out.
Chilean Joaquin Niemann has been gradually making his presence felt on the PGA Tour over the past 12 months and he was edged out in a play-off at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last weekend.
Kevin Kisner has finished in the top 5 at this event previously and after a solid 2020 he will be looking to get off to a flying start in 2021 in favourable conditions.

Getting off to a flyer in the Hawaiian sun could be essential this week and there are plenty of big names that will be hoping to do just that:-
Mexican superstar Abraham Ancer has an electrifying game, and he will be hoping to get off to a flying start in Hawaii this week after a tough outing at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Australian Cameron Smith is the defending champion at the Sony Open and he will be relishing the opportunity to get going again in the Hawaiian sun.
Despite fading out of contention on the final day last weekend, Brendon Todd found some form at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and he could carry that across Hawaii this week.
Top 10 Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Hawaii, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top ten come Sunday:-
Spaniard Sergio Garcia enjoyed a solid week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last time out and he could be in the mix come Sunday afternoon in Honolulu.
After finishing 2020 in fine form, many expect Jason Kokrak to kick on in 2021 and he should relish the quick playing conditions in Hawaii this week.
Argentinian Emiliano Grillo has been slowly regaining form once more in the biggest events on the PGA Tour and he could be a good value punt to finish in the top 10 this weekend.
