RACE 1
MIRACULOUS MAN has finished third in his last three starts, the latest of which was over 1200m on this course. He has finished second twice and third twice from as many starts over this distance. He gets the services of capable work rider Esethu Thuthu and may be rewarded for consistency.
MIDNIGHT ADVOCATOR finished 0.55 lengths behind the top choice last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The son of Greys Inn is a progressive type and may have more to come
HAPPY VIBES is having her first run for the Gavin Smith stable. She has fair Gauteng form lines to her credit. The daughter of Erupt tries the blinkers for the first time and if not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 2
ACORN is one of the better bets on the programme. He ran a fair race in his last start over 1300m on the polytrack. His penultimate run when second over 1400m catches the eye. The son of Time Thief is the best-weighted runner in this contest and if putting his best foot forward, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure
EYJAFJALLAJOKULL was unlucky not to have won his last start as he had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark and 150m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
EMPIRE BLUE has finished fourth in his last two starts. He was beaten under a length in his penultimate run over 1600m on this course. He has work to do at the weights, but can earn another cheque for his patrons.
RACE 3
MOHANDAS‘ last three starts have been decent. He stayed on at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Admiral’s Ransom. He does have the widest draw to contend with, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
ANNA KARENINA has inconsistent form lines, but she stayed on nicely when third over this C&D last time. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and S’manga Khumalo may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
AFRODITE should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. She finished 2.25 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
RACE 4
UNYIELDING was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this C&D. She ran on well and showed good guts to hold Saint Anastasia at bay. The daughter of Flower Alley received a two-pound penalty for that victory. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up.
ILHA DA MAURICIA finished 1.2 lengths behind DEMIGOD last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She won her only attempt on this course and merits healthy respect from pole position.
DEMIGOD stayed on when fourth over 1400m last time. It must be noted that Rose Of Bayeux has come out and won again since. She has won three times, finished second twice and third twice from nine starts over this distance. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and she can show
RACE 5
LUNA HALO was super-impressive when winning the Listed Lady’s Slipper last time. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Fire Away returns from a well-deserved 14-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She has class about her and if not in need of the run, she should take a power of beating.
RIMAAH is the stable companion of the top choice. She set the pace over 1400m on the polytrack last time, but was caught late by Rose Of Bayeux. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. If repeating her last outing, she should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
CHRONICLESOFNANIA finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
POMODORO MAGIC should have finished closer to the winner in her last start over 1000m as she was bumped and had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark. The daughter of Pomodoro has dropped to a competitive rating. She is back against her own sex today and can return to winning ways.
LOOKING HOT ran on strongly when winning her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She is in a good space and can follow up
KOMESANS PASSION showed good pace when second in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Willow Magic is best suited to this course and she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 7
TEATRO finished 0.25 lengths behind SLIM JANNIE last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has good consistent form lines to his credit and should notch up his third career victory.
SLIM JANNIE is better than his last start over 1200m on the polytrack. He won a good race in his penultimate run over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should pose a massive threat to the top choice.
INHERIT THE RAIN stayed on when sixth over 1200m on the polytrack last time. He has won twice, finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this distance. The 6yo gelding will be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages.
RACE 8
GREAT MELODY was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. He has won three times and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He received a six-pound penalty for his last victory and against similar company, he can follow up.
NARCOS‘ last three starts have been good. He finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
FIRST ORIGIN finished 2.85 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and can finish closer
