RACE 1
PONTE VECCHIO’S last three starts have been decent. She showed pace over 1000m on the turf last time, but found one too good in the form of Breede Baby. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is the form horse in this contest and may be the one to beat. She is carded to race on 30 August 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
BEST INTENTIONS is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ROYAL VENUS has fair recent form lines to her name. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last outing have come out and won since. She jumps from pole position and can finish in the placings.
RACE 2
GUARDING THE WALL should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung inwards in the final 350m. The son of Querari takes a drop in class and in this field, he is capable of returning to winning ways.
BENNELONG POINT‘S last start is best ignored. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is having his peak run and on best form shown, he should pose a threat.
WINNING CAPTAIN followed up his maiden victory with a fair fourth-place finish over this C&D. It is a small field and he won’t have to make up too much ground in the straight. The son of Captain Of All should be competitive.
RACE 3
WAR LAUNCH has shown good improvement in his last two starts under Marco van Rensburg. He was slow into stride over 1200m last time and stayed on to finish second. The drop to 1000m should not pose an issue as he has won over the distance previously. If jumping on terms, he can go one better.
KNOCKEMSTIFF finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in his local debut. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
MR BODACIOUS finished 1.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
RACE 4
This is a weak Conditional Maiden and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SMART VIEW from the Gavin Smith stable. He showed good improvement in his last start over 1300m on this course. The son of Global View is having his peak run today and in this line-up, he may be the one to side with.
BRYDEN BAY stayed on when third over 1300m last time. The son of Visionaire is coming along the right way and from pole position, he should pose a massive threat.
ELUSIVE HUNTER has fair recent form lines to her credit. She carries a handy galloping weight of 55kgs and can finish in the placings.
Race 5
COLORAMA finished 1.65 lengths behind DAWN OF GOLD last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 6yo mare has dropped in the ratings and from her good draw of four, she can notch up her fourth-career victory.
DAWN OF GOLD showed good guts when winning her last start over 1300m on this course. The blinkers have done the trick on the daughter of Gold Standard. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
EAT PREY LOVE is better than her last start in the Listed Lady’s Slipper as the jockey reported something to be amiss. This is her first run in Handicap Company. She won her only attempt over this C&D and with Richard Fourie back in the saddle, she should find a form return.
Race 6
BREEDE BABY took time to unwind in her last start over this distance on the turf last time. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and if suited to the polytrack, she should return to winning ways.
HUGSANDHIGHFIVES rallied late when third over 1600m on the turf last time. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and if repeating that effort, she should throw out a big challenge to the top selection.
MR MOLONY is having his first run for the Sharon Kotzen stable. He has won once and finished second once from five starts over this distance. If not in need of this outing, he should be the first male past the post.
RACE 7
KANIMAMBO has good form lines since relocating to the Eastern Cape. He raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and rallied late to finish third. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Sean Veale is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
WALT WHITMAN is better than his last start in the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Richard Fourie returns to the saddle and he should return to best form.
MILLENNIUM DANCER’S last two starts have been fair. The manner in which she finished off her last outing suggests that she will love the rise to 2200m. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she should earn another cheque for her patrons.
RACE 8
GLOBAL REEF has fair recent form lines to his name. The son of Global View is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. Sean Veale is booked to ride and if taking to the polytrack surface, he should be the one to beat in this field.
TAKE A MULLIGAN raced from a handy position over 1900m last time but found one too good in the form of Island Master. He is in a good space and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
LORD CAPULET finished 1.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result
