RACE 1
SWEET AND TRUE is better than his last start over 1400m on this course as he was reported to be cut into on his right hind. He returns from an 11-week break which would have done him the world of good. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. If not in need of this outing, he can win a race of this nature.
POMO’S BIG SPENDER finished 1.25 lengths behind NIKES RAY OF LIGHT on debut. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved at the finish.
NIKES RAY OF LIGHT ran a good race when second with the blinkers fitted last time. He is back on the polytrack and if keeping on a straight line, he should be competitive.
RACE 2
CONSIGLIERE is better than his last start as he changed strides in running. He ran a good race when second in his penultimate run over 1100m on this course. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag.
HAT HOT HAT raced from a handy position over 1300m last time, but found one too good in the form of Magic Prince. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
MY TRUE LOVE ran a fair race over 1600m last time. She drops to 1200m and the blinkers should sharpen her up. Richard Fourie retains the ride and she should earn another cheque for her patrons.
RACE 3
LA PEQUENITA challenged strongly in her last start over this C&D, but found one too good in the form of Seaside Trip. The daughter of Erupt receives her sex allowance. She is drawn awkwardly in barrier nine but Richard Fourie should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle. She should give the males a run for their money.
PORTCULLIS ran a good race when second over 2000m on this course last time. He should have no issues with the drop to the mile. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and he should be the first male past the post.
MAYOR OF MERRIVALE ran a fair race in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
RACE 4
MEETATTHEWINDSOR has fair recent form lines to his name. He has won twice and finished second once from nine starts over this distance. It is encouraging that Xolani Ndlovu steps back into the saddle as his last victory came under this pilot. With a bit of luck in running, he can return to winning ways.
CATCH YOUR BREATH is the stable companion of the top choice. She followed up her maiden victory with a creditable third-place finish over 1300m. She jumps from a good draw of three and should give the males a run for their money.
REACH FORTHE STARS showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this C&D. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this C&D. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be competitive.
Race 5
SUN SPECTACULAR set the pace over this distance on the turf last time and stayed on to finish second. She received a two-pound penalty for that effort. The daughter of Master Of My Fate meets the same field and she may be hard to peg back.
OPERA SWING should have finished closer in the Non-Black Type Walmer Handicap last time as she was held up for a run between the 300m mark and 150m mark. With luck in running, she should go close to winning.
FOR ALL WE KNOW was in need of her comeback run over this distance on the turf. Two of her four career victories have come on this course. She should strip much fitter and cannot be ignored.
Race 6
MISS GREENLIGHT challenged strongly in the Listed East Cape Breeders Stakes but found one too good in the form of Pineapplemintgreen. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Her last victory came under Richard Fourie and she should go one better here.
GOLDEN PACIFIC finished 4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
GOCEKWITHLOVE is the stable companion of the top choice. She set the pace over this C&D last time and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She takes on stronger, but is in a good space and can earn
RACE 7
THE MAURITIAN set the pace over 1400m last time and stayed on to finish third. His last victory came over 1600m on this course, three runs ago. The son of Vercingetorix should be ideally suited to 1300m and he is the stable elect with Richard Fourie in the saddle. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
SLINGS AND ARROWS finished 1.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
EVIES FIRST ran a good race when third over 1000m on the turf last time. He is at his best over shorter, but has the class to win a race of this nature.
RACE 8
PUERTO PLATA should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung inwards in the final 200m. He finished 2.95 lengths behind ALADO’S PRIDE in his penultimate run. He is 9.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his awkward draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
HEKNOWS fought hard for his last victory over this C&D. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. If getting his own way in front, he may be hard to peg back.
DOWNING SEVEN was running on when 2 lengths behind ALADO’S PRIDE last time. He is 6.5kgs better off at the weights today and should turn the form around. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. The widest draw is the obvious concern
