RACE 1
VINTAGE CRYSTAL has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She ran on over this C&D last time but found one too good in the form of La Pequenita. The daughter of Gold Standard meets the right field and she can shed her maiden tag.
ELUSIVE MATA ran a fair race over 1300m on this course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She finished 3 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate start. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
BEIJING BOULEVARD’S last two starts have been fair. She is a filly with scope and can earn another cheque for her patrons.
RACE 2
HOME REEF showed good improvement in his local debut over 1300m on this course. The son of Erupt would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Luyolo Mxothwa steps into the saddle and he can improve to win this.
DONNY’S BOY stayed on when third over this distance on the turf last time. The son of Global View is a progressive type and if suited to the polytrack, he should pose a massive threat.
ERIMITAGE is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last start has come out and won since. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and if settled into his new surroundings, he should be involved at the finish.
RACE 3
BACK FOR MORE should have finished closer to the winner over 1400m on the turf last time as she hung inwards in the final 200m. She finished second in her penultimate run over 1300m on this course. She is likely to race on the speed under Richard Fourie and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
AS FATE HAS IT produced good form lines before given a 10-week break. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. She does have work to do at the weights but if fit, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
AMAZING COLOURS is better than her last three starts. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She has won once and finished second five times from eight starts on this course. On best form shown, she would not be a shock winner.
RACE 4
CRIMSON COMET finished 0.75 lengths behind ISLAND MASTER last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
ISLAND MASTER raced from a handy position over 2000m last time and stayed on to finish second. Luyolo Mxothwa is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
POTENT CAPTAIN is better than his last start on the turf. His penultimate run when second over 1600m on this course was encouraging. If seeing out the 1900m, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
GLOBAL ALLY was slow into stride in the Listed Memorial Mile last time and stayed on at the finish. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. His last victory came under Richard Fourie. The 6yo gelding should notch up his eighth-career victory.
ZATARA MAGIC ran a fair race in the Non-Black Type Port Elizabeth Gold Cup last time. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BOURNEMOUTH finished 4.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
PUERTO PLATA finished 2 lengths behind CATCH THE TUNE last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He has cracked a good draw of three and can return to winning ways.
CATCH THE TUNE is better than his last start on the turf. He won his penultimate outing over 1900m on this course. The 6yo gelding has no stamina issues and must be included in all bets.
HAROLD THE DUKE is better than his last start over 2000m on the turf. He was not disgraced in the Non-Black Type Port Elizabeth Gold Cup in his penultimate run. He won his only attempt over this C&D and cannot be ignored.
RACE 7
CAN’T SAY NO raced from a handy position over 1600m on this course last time and stayed on to finish fourth. Both her career victories have come on this course. She does take on male company, but has ability and should be up to the task at hand.
PASHTUNWALI’S last three starts have been good. If jumping on terms, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
COASTAL PATH finished 1.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. The 5yo gelding should earn another cheque for his patrons.
RACE 8
IRONTAIL is better than his last start over 1200m on the turf. His three efforts prior to that outing on this course were good. The 7yo gelding takes a drop in class and he is capable of bringing up his fifth-career victory.
MR BODACIOUS should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the final 300m. He finished 1.85 lengths behind JACKSON MISISSIPPI in his penultimate run. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
JACKSON MISISSIPPI is a winner of his last two starts. He received a three-pound penalty for his latest victory. Chase Maujean retains the ride and the combination can bring up the hat-trick
