Race 1
ELEGANT ACT was her own worst enemy over a mile last time as she over raced in the early stages. Her debut effort when finishing fourth over 1400m on this course was eye-catching. The daughter of Act Of War should have no issues with the drop to 1200m. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from her wide draw of eleven and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
GRECIAN PALACE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and she is one of the leading contenders.
CONTRA FISCUM was disappointing in her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She is having her first run for the Duncan Howells stable and Richard Fourie is booked to ride. If settled into her new surroundings, she should have improvement to come.
Race 2
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. NIGHTINGALES SING is an unraced daughter of Lancaster Bomber from the Gareth van Zyl stable with Athandiwe Mgudlwa in the irons. She is related to 13-time winner Grazinginthegrass. She does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this type of field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
NONOTI ran a fair race over this C&D last time. Her penultimate run when third was encouraging. Her best form has been under Rachel Venniker and the combination cannot be ignored.
PERFECTLY PICKED showed improvement in her last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is a progressive type and should love the step up to the mile.
Race 3
MASTER OF THE TURF ran a fair race over 1600m on this course. He was reported to be not striding out that day. The son of Master Of My Fate will be at home over the 1900m. He jumps from pole position and if this run has not come too soon, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
IMAGINABLE‘S last two starts have been good. He finished second in his penultimate run over this C&D. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he will be staying on at the business end.
PLAYER X ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He will enjoy the rise to 1900m and should strip much fitter. He does have a wide draw of nine to overcome, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 4
DIANA THE HUNTRESS won a game race in her last start over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She should have won easier than the margin suggests that day as she was awkwardly placed and had to be switched at the 150m mark. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won since. The daughter of Futura should enjoy the step up to 2200m. She has ability and can follow up.
LADY CANTON finished 1.5 lengths behind BLAZING ASTUTE last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is carded to race on 18 October 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
BLAZING ASTUTE was running on when second over 2000m on the polytrack last time. She should have no issues with the rise to 2200m and must be included in all bets.
Race 5
BUSTER KEATON‘S last two starts have been good, the latest of which was over this C&D. He moved up like a winner last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He jumps from a good draw of two and can go one better.
INTREPID finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
THE GLIDING FISH is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a drop-in class and on best form shown, he may be the one to cause the upset.
Race 6
This is a competitive Pinnacle Stakes field which sees a few classy individuals making their season debuts. GLADATORIAN was not beaten far in the Grade 1 Mercury Sprint last time. He won a good race in the Grade 2 Post Merchants in his penultimate start. He does have a big mass to carry, but he is class and merits healthy respect.
WINTER GAMES was not disgraced in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time. He returns from a 16-week break, during which time he was gelded. He is distance suited and if not in need of the run, he should give his older rivals a run for their money.
COIN SPINNER won a good race in his last start over 1000m on this course. Three of his six career victories have come over this C&D. He is in a good space and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he should fight out the finish.
Race 7
MEXICAN PETE followed up his debut win with an impressive victory over this trip. The manner in which he quickened away from the field that day was eye-catching. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He does meet a competitive field, but has class about him and should remain unbeaten.
STRATHCLYDE won a good race on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He found betting support which suggests that he was showing good work at home. He could be anything and it is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride.
EXCEPT TEMPTATION ran on well to dead heat in his last victory over 1400m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and can follow up.

KUPHOLIWE set the pace over this C&D last time, but was outrun late. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be the one to beat
BEYONDTHEBOUNDARY ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He has won three times from five starts over this distance. He has cracked a good draw of three and is one of the leading contenders.
MASTER JOSH finished 0.3 lengths behind WYLIE RILEY last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
