Winning Form selections for @Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday 1st January where there are huge prizes available in the free to enter Punters Challenge
Race 1
ABADDON returns from a lengthy 66-week break. The son of Flying The Flag has produced two good runs to date. He would have strengthened up during his time off the track. He meets the right field and if not in need of this outing, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
WORLD OF HOPE ran a fair race on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He lost a length leaving the start, but stayed on in the closing stages. He has changed stables since that outing. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
CATAVAR went too fast in the early stages of his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and understandably lacked a finish. He has finished third three times from four starts on this course. He runs well for Jockey Mathew Thackeray and can earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 2
FLYING HAFLA set the pace over 1900m on this course last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Pull A Fast One. The drop to 1600m is no concern. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
PRINCE FLORIAN ran a fair race when third over 1400m on this course last time. He lost two lengths leaving the start and stayed on at the finish. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
LAVA BURST‘S last two starts have been fair. He returns from a 10-week break which may have done him the world of good. If fit, he should finish in the first three.
Race 3
ETHEREAL VIEW ran a good race when third over this distance on the polytrack last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that Safe And Sound has come out and won since. She has won on this course previously. If jumping on terms, she may be the one to beat.
TOMYRIS won a good race in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she should go close.
THE GHOST ran on powerfully when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a three pound penalty for that victory. 4kgs claiming apprentice Damyan Pillay retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 4
BOB stayed on at the finish when sixth over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. The son of William Longsword should have no issues with the rise to 1800m. He takes a drop in class and from his good draw of two, he may be the one to cause the upset.
KING BAVARIAN has consistent form lines to his name. He has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this distance. He is drawn widest of all in barrier nine, but Athandiwe Mgudlwa knows him well and should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
GALAXY EXPLORER‘S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that Johnny The Thief has come out and won again since. He drops back in class and Gavin Lerena may be able to get the best out of him.
Race 5
ROAMING SPIRIT is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. She stayed on when third in a strong field over 1160m at Turffontein last time. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m. If not too green on her course debut, she should be the one to beat.
BUTTERCUP BABY produced an encouraging debut effort over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run and will love the rise to 1400m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
WHITE WATERS is having her first run for the Mike Miller yard and she is the stable elect with Tristan Godden in the saddle. Her recent form in the Western Cape has been good. If settled into her new surroundings, she should be involved.
Race 6
PORFIRIO finished 1.1 lengths behind BRAVE VOYAGER last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The 6yo gelding jumps from a good draw of two and can go one better.
BRAVE VOYAGER set the pace over this distance on the polytrack last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. He has won on this course previously. Sean Veale retains the ride and he should be hard to peg back.
IRON WILL has shown some signs of a form return in his last two starts. Two of his five career victories have come over this distance. He jumps from pole position and may be hard to peg back at the wire.
Race 7
FUTURE FLO has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He cost himself winning last time as he hung in the closing stages. He finished 2.2 lengths behind ANDY COOGLE in his penultimate run. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If keeping on a straight line, he may be the one to beat.
ANDY COOGLE won a good race in his last start over 1100m on the polytrack. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. Serino Moodley retains the ride and he should be competitive.
TWENTY ONE MAY finished 0.4 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish
Race 8
This is a competitive Class 5 field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SWISS PARADISE from the Tony Rivalland stable. She stayed on when third over 1000m on the polytrack last time. She drops back in class and with a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she can go close.
QUENTASIA stayed on nicely when fifth over 1000m on this course last time. She drops back in class and with luck in running, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
DAWN SURPRISE raced from a handy position over this distance on the polytrack last time and stayed on to finish third. The cheekpieces seem to have done the trick. She returns from an 11-week break and if not in need of the outing, she can feature
