Race 1
This is a weak Maiden Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is FIRE TONIC from the Stuart Ferrie stable. He was squeezed leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish second. He has finished second twice from three starts over this distance. His best career effort came under Richard Fourie and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag.
UNTERS ARROW’S last three starts have been fair. He stayed on when third over this distance on the turf last time. He would have come on from the run and with luck in running, he should pose a threat.
SCAMPTON is lightly raced with fair form lines to his credit. He will have to be given a chance from the widest draw and if suited to the polytrack, he should be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 2
LASHLAROO stayed on at the finish over 1200m on the Polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Andy Coogle. The manner in which he finished off his debut run suggests that he will love the rise to 1700m. The son of Erupt jumps from pole position and he may be the one to beat.
FUTURE OF ENERGY raced from a handy position over 1600m on the turf last time, but found one too good in the form of Johnny The Thief. He should have no issues with the step up to 1700m and he is one of the leading contenders.
KING’S ISLAND stayed on strongly when third over 1400m on this course last time. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the son of Fire Away. He tries the 1700m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
ACTION STATIONS finished 0.8 lengths behind RODRIGUEZ last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Apprentice Nirvan Nastili takes the 4kgs off his back and from his good draw of two, he can return to winning ways.
RODRIGUEZ stayed on when second over 1600m on the turf last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
MAJESTIC WARRIOR fought hard in his last start over 1600m on this course. He finished 8.15 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights and should finish closer as a result.
Race 4
EL REY VIENE is better than his last start over 2200m on this course. He had to overcome the widest draw that day and lacked a finish in the straight. It must be noted that the horse that finished third has come out and won since. His three efforts prior to that outing were good. He tries the polytrack for the first time and if suited to the surface, he can return to winning ways.
PRAGMATIST ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He takes a slight drop-in class and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should pose a threat.
STRAIGHT UP fought hard for his last victory over 1800m on this course. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. Apprentice Kobeli Lihaba takes the 4kgs off his back and he can follow up.
Race 5
DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts over this C&D. The son of Visionaire takes a slight drop-in class and may be hard to peg back.
PRINCEKRESH finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
AGRESSIVO was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He drops to the 1000m for the first time and if suited, he can show improvement.
Race 6
WINTER WAVES’ last two starts have been good. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the closing stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SUNDANCE KID finished 1.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
HIPPOCRATES found more when winning his last start over 1200m on this course. Two of his five career victories have come over this C&D. He always gives of his best and merits obvious inclusion.
Race 7
GLOBAL SECRET is a winner of her last two starts over 1400m. She set the pace last time and despite the apprentice dropping his reins, she held on at the finish. She would have come on from that outing and from pole position, she should notch up the hat-trick.
ZARIYAH followed up her maiden victory with a decent fourth-place finish over 1400m on this course. She was reported to be coughing that day. The daughter of Global View will be at home over the mile and she has plenty of scope. From her good draw of two, she should run a big race.
FASHIONIGMA finished 1.5 lengths behind SHAKEN NOT STIRRED last time. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 8
BLUSH OF DAWN ran a good race when second in her last start over 1200m in male company. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. She is back against her own sex and can notch up her sixth-career victory.
ENGLISH PRIMROSE took on slightly stronger in her last start over 2000m on this course. She drops back in class and on best form shown, she should pose a threat.
MISS GIBSON was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory. If jumping on terms, she can follow up
