Race 1
LA PULGA produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. He lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Pomodoro would have gained from the experience and he should love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
WORLDLY was a tad disappointing in his last start which could be put down to second run after rest. His penultimate run when third over 1000m catches the eye. He tries the tongue- tie for the first time which may have the desired effect.
ARDABIL is an unraced son of Danon Platina from the Justin Snaith stable with Grant van Niekerk in the saddle. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.
Race 2
CAPTAIN WEST caught the eye when third on debut over this C&D. He showed good pace and despite racing green, he fought hard all the way to the line. The son of One World would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to beat.
CUMBRE VIEJA has produced two decent efforts to date. He stayed on when third over this C&D last time. The son of Erupt is a progressive type and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BAGATELLE FLASH’S last two starts have been good. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick. He steps back up to 1200m which should suit him well.
Race 3
POWERANDTHEGLORY ran a decent race on debut over 1000m on this course. He was green in running, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to 1400m and if not too green around the turn, he should be the one to beat.
WESTERN WORLD took on winners on debut over 1200m. The son of One World would have gained from the experience and should strip much fitter. Ashton Arries is booked to ride and he should make the natural progression.
HAPPY DAYS has run two fair races to date. He was slow into stride over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish fourth. The son of One World is a progressive type and with luck in running, he can finish in the placings.
Race 4
ROMAN AGENT is better than his last start in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery as the jockey reported something to be amiss in running. The son of Vercingetorix showed lots of promise in his first three career outings. He should have no issues with the rise to 1400m and in this field, we are likely to see him return to winning ways.
KINDA WONDERFUL followed up her maiden victory with a good second- place finish over 1000m. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She will love the rise to 1400m and should give the males a run for their money with 55kgs to shoulder.
AFRICAN PRINCE produced a strong late burst when winning his maiden at the second time of asking. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. He is a progressive type and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 5
MIDWAY has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Daimyo. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Pomodoro is a progressive type and from his good draw of three, he should go one better.
WATER DRAGON should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was switched for running room at the 350m mark. He has plenty of scope and with luck in running, he should pose a massive threat.
TSUNAMI WARNING’S last three starts have been good. He has cracked a handy draw of five and will be staying on at the business end.
Race 6
PALO QUEEN showed good speed when winning her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Pathfork received a three-pound penalty for that victory. She meets similar company this afternoon and can follow up.
SHE’S MY CAPTAIN finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. She is having her second run after a rest and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she should be competitive.
TEQUILA SKY finished 2.5 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 7
QUESTIONING showed good guts when winning his last start over 1100m on this course. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. The blinkers have done the trick on the son of Querari. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and is the horse to beat.
JERUSALEMA RAIN finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
RIO QUERARI finished 1.75 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. He should have finished closer that day as he received a bump at the 100m mark. With a bit of luck in running, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 8
LION RAMPART has good form lines to his credit. He cost himself winning the Grade 3 Winter Nursery last time as he hung inwards throughout. The son of One World is the class horse in this race and if keeping on a straight line, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
KAIBOY won a good race in his last start over 1000m on this course. The manner in which he quickened up that day was encouraging. He finished 2 lengths behind the top choice on debut. He is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. TALK
TO THE MASTER showed good guts when winning his last start over this C&D. The son of Master Of My Fate is a progressive type and merits healthy respect.
Race 9
SILVER CROWN finished 0.3 lengths behind GIMMELIGHTNING last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Canford Cliffs is in a good space and can return to winning ways.
GIMMELIGHTNING was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight received a two-pound penalty for that victory. He will be mowing down the frontrunners at the finish.
DUMBLEDORE finished 1.55 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 10
CLOUD CHASER showed good signs of a form return in her last start over this distance. She had to overcome a wide draw but stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of Silvano has cracked a good draw of four and she may be the one to side with.
BENEATH THE MOON finished 0.5 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
SENHORA VICTORIA ran a decent race in her last start over this distance. She has cracked a handy draw of five and Aldo Domeyer may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most
