Race 1
GIMMETHEWALTZ is the best bet on today’s programme. She was a beaten odds-on favourite when third in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight meets the right field this afternoon and she can make amends.
LISTENTOTHEOCEAN is better than her last start in the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint. Her debut effort when fifth over this C&D was encouraging. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and back in Maiden Company, she should improve.
ESSENTIAL finished 5.75 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. The daughter of William Longsword would have come on from the run and should make the natural improvement.
Race 2
MEU CAPITANO was super-impressive when winning on debut over this C&D. He raced from just off the pace, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. The son of Captain Of All found plenty of betting support that day which suggests that he was showing good work at home. He could be anything and with Grant van Niekerk retaining the ride, he can remain unbeaten.
SPEEDING BULLET returns from a 14-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed and if not in need of the run, he may be hard to peg back.
CAPTAIN ARROW won his maiden easier than the official margin suggests. He has been gelded since that victory which may have been what he needed. The blinkers remain fitted and he merits healthy respect.
Race 3
MOONACRES ran a fair race on debut over 1000m on this course. He understandably raced green, but stayed on at the business end. The son of Trippi would have gained from the experience and will love the extra furlong on offer. Grant van Niekerk takes the ride and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to side with.
SAIL THE SKY produced a fair debut effort over this C&D. The son of Lancaster Bomber may be at his best over further, but he can improve in this line-up.
SNOW CLOUD showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D. He showed good pace, but was outrun by Double Olympic. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be hard to peg back.
Race 4
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MIRACLE IN MOTION from the Justin Snaith stable. She has produced two fair efforts to date. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and in this line-up, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
DE JANEIRO‘S last two starts after returning from a 17-week break have been fair. The daughter of Oratorio should enjoy the step up to 1400m. She will be at peak fitness and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she is one of the leading contenders.
LICKETY SPLIT is the stable companion of the top choice. The mile may have been out of her reach last time and she drops back to the 1400m. She has scope and can improve to finish in the placings.
Race 5
NAUSHON moved up like a winner over 1600m last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Spirit’s Unite. He has finished fourth in both his efforts over this C&D. The son of Dynasty is having his peak run today and with a bit of luck in running, he can go one better.
HAWK CIRCLE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to switch for running room at the 400m mark. The son of Silvano will be at home over the 1800m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MARSHALL FIELD has decent recent form lines to his credit. He stayed on at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Green Mandarin. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 6
SPIRIT‘S UNITE is the only winner in this line-up. He was slow into stride over 1600m last time, but ran on well and got up where it matters most. The son of The United States should have no issues with the drop to 1200m and if jumping on terms, he may be the one to beat.
WARM WINTER NITE showed good pace over 1000m last time and stayed on to finish second. He finished third in his penultimate run over this C&D. Aldo Domeyer takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
LINES CROSSED is better than his last start in the Listed Somerset 1200 as he did not act in the going. His two starts prior to that outing were encouraging. Grant van Niekerk steps back into the saddle and he must be included in all bets.
Race 7
FUSILLADE challenged strongly in her last start over 1100m on this course, but found one too good in the form of Miss Marguerite. She would have come on from the run and should strip a much fitter horse. The 5yo mare meets a similar line-up this afternoon and she can go one better.
FUN ZONE finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line
INARA‘S DYNASTY is better than her comeback run. She had to be checked at the 200m mark and cast a shoe in running. The daughter of Dynasty has class about her and will strip much fitter. If putting her best foot forward, she is capable of notching up her third career victory.
Race 8
NARINA TROGON raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish fourth. He is a horse with ability and Aldo Domeyer may be able to get the best out of him. The son of Silvano is a versatile type and can notch up his third career victory
FUTURE TURN is a winner of his last two starts. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from six starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he can notch up the hat-trick.
CHARLIE CROKER finished 0.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line
