Race 1
HAVANA MOON was an easy winner of his last start over 1200m on this course. He showed good speed and found extra where it matters most. The son of Last Winter should have no issues with the rise to 1400m. He is the stable elect with Tristan Godden in the saddle and from pole position, he can follow up.
ISIVIVANE won a good race over 1200m on this course, at the second time of asking. The son of Erupt is a progressive type. The obvious concern is his wide draw of 13 and if this run has not come too soon, he should be involved at the finish.
DISCERNING is much better than her last start in the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes. Her first two career outings on the straight course were promising. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 2
WE WILL ROCK YOU ran a good race on debut over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course. She was green in running, but finished off her race well. The daughter of Oratorio would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.
ELUSIVE BELLE should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung outwards in the final 300m. The daughter of Royal Mo gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. If keeping on a straight line, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
CUPID’S WAY was in need of her debut effort over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. The daughter of Fire Away would have come on from the outing and should make the natural progression.
Race 3
CHIEFTAIN hails from the visiting Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. He produced a promising debut effort over 800m at Turffontein. He was green in running, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1000m. If all went well with his travels, he should be the one to beat.
TRIPPI T has not finished too far behind the winner in recent outings. He showed good speed over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Lightning Jimmy. He will strip a much fitter horse and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
RAILROAD ran a fair race in his last start over this C&D. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He is likely to race on the speed under 4kgs claiming apprentice Brevan Plaatjies and may be hard to peg back.
Race 4
NETTLETON has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Law Of Success who has come out and won again since. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from five starts over this distance. The daughter of What A Winter may be the one to side with.
ISN’T SHE BONNY produced a typical second run after a rest last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is having her peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.
KENNEDY showed good speed over this distance on the polytrack last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Le Premiere. She is having her first run on this course and if suited, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 5
LIGHTNING GLOW followed up his maiden win with an equally impressive victory over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. He raced from a handy position last time and found extra where it matters most. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If settled into KZN, he should notch up the hat-trick.
NEWS STREAM has been taking on stronger in recent outings. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. The 8yo gelding takes a drop-in class and he can show signs of a form return.
BANZAI PIPELINE ran a fair race over 1700m on the polytrack last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. Two of his six career victories have come on this course. The 6yo gelding cannot be ignored.
Race 6
GET IMPRESSED has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung outwards in the closing stages. His penultimate run when fifth in the Grade 3 Schweppes Politician Stakes was encouraging. If suited to the right-hand turn, he should be too good for this field.
BELLA SICCOME won a game race in the Non-Black Type UmThombothi Stakes last time. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. Apprentice Brevan Plaatjies takes the 4kgs off her back which will assist her cause. She is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.
EL REY VIENE’S last three starts have been good. He finished 0.9 lengths behind CYBER TIME in his penultimate run. He is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
GIAMBATTISTA is a winner of his last three starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. He raced from a handy position last time and fought hard to keep all challengers at bay. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the combination can win again.
PHUTULICIOUS finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. If Athandiwe Mgudlwa is able to switch him off early, he should be competitive.
IRON WILL raced from a handy position over 1600m last time, moved up but was caught late by Shotgun Willie. He is likely to race on the speed from pole position and should produce another honest effort.
Race 8
SWISS PARADISE finished 0.3 lengths behind CHELSEA FLOWER last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the daughter of What A Winter. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back.
CHELSEA FLOWER fought hard for her last victory over this distance on the polytrack. She has finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. She is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders.
SPIRITED FLIGHT’S last two starts have been good. The daughter of What A Winter gets the services of Craig Zackey and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most
