Race 1
CAT O’CLOCK produced a promising debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. She returns from a 34-week break, during which time she changed stables. The daughter of Rafeef would have strengthened up during her time off the track. Trainer Tony Peter is no stranger to bringing his horses back to the course fit for their return and she may be the one to side with.
WILLOWILD showed some improvement when third in her last start over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1200m. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
LITTLEBLACKGEM should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was carried inwards in the final 100m. She produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. With a bit of luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
BURNING MAN was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. His penultimate run when third over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth was encouraging. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag.
ROTOTO is better than his last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. His debut effort when second over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville was eye-catching. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should pose a threat.
SILVER SAVAGE has good recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last outing has come out and won since. He steps back up to 1400m and merits obvious inclusion.
Race 3
WILLOW EXPRESS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He was running on when third over this distance at Turffontein last time. He has won twice, finished second twice and third twice from eleven starts over this distance. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
LAKE COMO stayed on at the finish over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. All four of his career victories have come over this trip. From his good draw of three, he should pose a threat.
IRON WILL has good recent form lines to his credit. He has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. If keeping on a straight line, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
BALLROOM BLISS stayed on when third in the Listed KRA East Coast Cup last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She steps up to 2400m and if repeating that effort in this field, she can return to winning ways.
TO THE RESCUE has finished third in his last two starts over this distance. He lost a length leaving the start last time but finished his race off well. Piere Strydom is likely to settle him near the rear of the field from his awkward draw and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.
CONTINENTALEXPRESS was his own worst enemy last time as he overraced in the early stages. He steps up to 2400m and if Craig Zackey is able to switch him off early, he should be competitive.
Race 5
GIMMIE’S COUNTESS was super-impressive when winning on debut over this distance on the Polytrack. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight does face much stronger, but she looks to have class about her and she can remain unbeaten.
JUST RECKLESS was an easy winner of her last start in the Grade 3 tabGOLD Strelitzia Stakes. She showed good pace that day, found another kick and won with ease. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is in a good space and she is one of the leading contenders.
SYMPHONY IN WHITE won a good race in her last start over 1000m on this course. She would have come on nicely with that run. If keeping on a straight line, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 6
PISTOL PETE was outrun late when third in the Grade 3 TAB SA Nursery last time. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody was super-impressive in his first three career victories. If ridden with a bit of restraint in the early stages, he has the ability to return to winning ways.
PROCEED won a good race in the Grade 3 TAB Protea Stakes last time. He finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate start. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
CYMRIC is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was in the Listed tabGold Godolphin Barb Stakes. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and with the experience of racing on this course, he can notch up the hat-trick.
Race 7
This is a competitive Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is WHITE PEARL from the Mike de Kock stable. She did not get off to the best of starts in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas and she was reported to be blowing post-race. The daughter of Danon Platina should love the drop to 1200m. She runs well for Jockey Piere Strydom. She will enjoy a good pace up front and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
MRS BROWNING showed good speed when winning the Grade 2 TAB Camellia Stakes last time. She has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. She is in a good space and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ASIYE PHAMBILI was an easy winner in the Grade 3 Dennis Drier Poinsettia Stakes last time. She finished 0.3 lengths behind OCTOBER MORN, four runs ago. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 8
SURJAY finished 0.6 lengths behind LUCKY LAD last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He finished 3.55 lengths behind DYCE in his penultimate start. He is 5.5kgs better off at the weights and should turn the form around. He has won four times, finished second twice and third three times from ten starts over this distance. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
LUCKY LAD won a good race in the Grade 2 Jehan Malherbe Senor Santa Stakes. He won the Gold Medallion over this C&D, last year. He is the best-weighted runner with regards to ratings and merits healthy respect.
DYCE is much better than his last two starts. He has won four times and finished second once from six starts over this distance. On best form shown, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 9
WONDERFUL ran on well when second in her last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She has finished third in both her efforts over this C&D. The daughter of Global View jumps from pole position and she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
MOUNTAINSOFTHEMOON ran a fair race in the Listed KRA East Coast Cup last time. She takes a drop back in class and with a bit of luck in running, she should be right there.
MASCHERINA won a good race in her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and cruised in. She is drawn widest of all but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle
