Race 1
THE SHEPHERD ran a good race when third in his first run as a gelding over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. The son of Captain Of All would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He is a progressive type and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
EL DRAQUE has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has finished second twice and third once from six starts over this distance. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Kobeli Lihaba which will help his chances.
KUMEMORI is better than his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His form prior to that outing was consistent. If putting his best foot forward, he should be competitive.
Race 2
WILLIAM ROBERTSON hails from the visiting Corne Spies stable. He won a good race in his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. How he drew away from the opposition that day was encouraging. Three of his eight career victories have come over this distance. If all went well with his travels, he can follow up.
CANADIAN SUMMER ran a very good race in her comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. She will strip a much fitter horse today and merits healthy respect.
PRAY FOR RAIN‘s last two starts have been decent. He tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 3
SPECMAGIC has shown improvement in each of his outings to date. He stayed on when fourth over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. The son of Potala Palace is a progressive type and in this field, he may be the one to side with.
PHUTULICIOUS showed improvement in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1400m. From pole position, he should have more to come.
RED MOUNTAIN ran a good race when third in his last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He drops back to 1400m and if keeping on a straight line, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 4
PASSAGE OF POWER has good recent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position over 1200m last time, but was caught late. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop-in class and despite his big mass of 61.5kgs, he may be hard to peg back.
SOUTHERN SKIES finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. She will be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the line.
LORD WYLIE finished 1.6 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 5
MASTERBLING stayed on nicely in his last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. It must be noted that Time Together has come out and won again since. The drop to 1200m should not pose a concern as he won on debut over 1000m. The son of Master Of My Fate is having his peak run today. If keeping on a straight line, he can return to winning ways.
PREEMPTIVE STRIKE took on stronger in his last start on the Polytrack. His form prior to that outing was good. He drops back in class and is one of the leading contenders.
PURPLE POWAHOUSE showed some signs of a form return in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He has finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this C&D. He carries a light mass and if jumping on terms, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
Race 6
PRINCEKRESH from the Wayne Badenhorst stable is the tentative first selection. He stayed on when fifth over this distance on the Polytrack last time. He has won four times, finished second twice and third three times from 13 starts over this C&D. Apprentice Brevan Plaatjies takes the 4kgs off his back and he is capable of returning to winning ways in this field.
SHOT OF COURAGE was outrun late when third over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He drops in class and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MCCARTNEY stayed on when second over 1200m on the Polytrack. He has won once and finished third twice from seven starts on this course. If repeating his last effort in this type of field, he should run a big race.
Race 7
COMMON GROUNDS was an easy winner of his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
IZAPHA won a game race in his last start over 1800m on the Polytrack. He returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. If fit, he should pose a massive threat.
SHOEFELLA is better than his last start as he did not act in the soft going. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be right there.
Race 8
LADY CANTON has produced three decent efforts since winning her maiden. She has won once and finished second twice from four starts on this course. She should enjoy the drop to 1750m. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is well-weighted and with luck in running, she may be the one to beat.
THREE STRANDS tried hard in her last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. She takes a drop-in class and if all went well with her travels, she should pose a threat.
SHAKEN NOT STIRRED held on where it matters most to win her last start over 1900m on the Polytrack. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory. She carries a light mass and another honest run is expected
