MYSTIC DANCER produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course, four weeks ago. She understandably raced green, but the manner in which she finished off her race was eye-catching. The daughter of The United States would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

BERRINGTON BLEW finished 1.55 lengths behind the top selection on debut. The daughter of Oratorio would have come on from the run and if seeing out the extra 200m, she should pose a massive threat.

WILLOW GEM is an unraced daughter of Willow Magic from the Paul Lafferty stable with Jacey Botes taking the 4kgs off her back. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2

GREENLIGHT QUEEN ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. She was reported to be not striding out that day which makes the effort that much more encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth has come out and won since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight meets the right field and she can go one better.

K M V RETROFIT finished 1.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

LUCIENNE produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Captain Of All would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 3

MESSALINA has finished second in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this distance at Turffontein. She tried hard when behind Roaming Spirit last time. Her penultimate run when second behind Spumante Dolce catches the eye. Kabelo Matsunyane is booked to ride and if all went well with her travels, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

DANCING ON A CLOUD is an unraced son of Lancaster Bomber from the Dean Kannemeyer stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrant.

APACHE AG is a son of The Apache from the Gareth van Zyl yard with Sean Veale in the irons. He is related to three-time winner Apache Too. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.

Race 4

WHISPERS OF WAR ran a fair race over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The 7yo gelding gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Jacey Botes which will assist his cause. He is likely to race on the speed and if all went well with his travels, he may be hard to peg back.

FUTURE SAINT’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last outing has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

BEACH PALACE’S last three starts have been fair. He stayed on when third over this C&D last time. He carries another big mass of 64kgs, but cannot be ignored.

 

 

Race 5

PARMENION was doing his best work at the finish when fourth over 1400m last time. The son of Crusade takes a drop in class and with Andrew Fortune booked to ride, he should run a big race.

FESTIVAL OF MAGIC ran a decent race when fifth over 1200m last time. He won his only attempt over this distance. The son of Rafeef will strip a much fitter horse and from pole position, he is one of the leading contenders.

TERMINATOR is better than his last start over 1400m on the polytrack. He finished third in his penultimate run on this course. If putting his best foot forward, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6

PRINCESS PALACE ran a good race when third over this distance last time. Despite losing a length leaving the start that day, she raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. The blinkers seem to have done the trick. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back and if jumping on terms, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

THE QUEEN BEE finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.

ELUSIVE BELLE showed some signs of a form return over 1600m on this course last time. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. With luck in running, she can finish in the placings.

Race 7

ONE SMART COOKIE has consistent form lines to her credit. She has won twice, finished second twice and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. Kabelo Matsunyane is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

WINGS OF JOSEPHINE finished 0.9 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 4.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

CHELSEA FLOWER was an easy winner last time and gave Carl Hewitson a perfect send off. She is having her first run for the Stuart Ferrie stable. Siphesihle Hlengwa retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 8

DONQUERARI is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Marula Sprint. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His effort when second behind Cats Pajamas, four runs ago catches the eye. He has won twice, finished second once and third three times from ten starts over this C&D. He drops in class and with the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Blaine Marx-Jacobson, he would not be a shock winner.

LUHAMBA PHAMBILI is better than his last two starts in the Western Cape. He returns to KZN and takes a drop in class. 4kgs claiming apprentice Mxolisi Mbuto is booked to ride and if fit, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

TWENTY ONE MAY finished 0.05 lengths behind SMORGASBORD last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned
