Race 1
Six of the eight runners in this contest are first-timers and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. GOLD RUSH KID is an unraced son of Rabada from the Mike Miller yard with stable jockey Tristan Godden in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Kahula and Freedom’s Fire. If not in need of the run, he can start his career on a positive note.
ACT OF GENIUS ran a fair race on debut over 800m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should make the natural improvement.
HORSE PHAROAH is an unraced son of Master Of My Fate from the Kumaran Naidoo stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Helen’s Ideal and Helen’s Blush. He is carded to race on 24 December 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 2
TOTHESTARSANDBACK showed good improvement in her last start over 1000m on this course. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She found plenty of betting support which suggests that she was showing good work at home. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber would have come on from the run and she can improve to win under Richard Fourie.
PATANTS HEIR took time to find her feet on debut over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The manner in which she finished off her race caught the eye. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She would have come on from the run and should make the natural improvement.
DAWN SURPRISE stayed on at the finish on debut over this C&D. She would have gained from the experience and there should be plenty of improvement to come from her.
Race 3
ABADDON has produced two good efforts to date. He was reported to have bled in his last outing and returns from his suspension/break. His debut effort when second over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville catches the eye. The son of Flying The Flag has ability and if not in need of this outing, he can shed his maiden tag.
SEND ME understandably raced green on debut, but how he finished off his race was eye-catching. He would have gained from the experience and should love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.
TEATIME TIPPLE was a beaten odds-on favourite in his last start over 1000m on this course. His record over this distance is an obvious concern but he cannot be ignored.
Race 4
AFRICAN DUSK showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1600m on the polytrack. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts on this course. He takes a drop-in class and from pole position, he should be the one to beat.
ARVERNI KING finished 0.9 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
PAPA C’S last three starts were good. He returns from a 13-week break which would have done him the world of good. If not in need of this outing, he should be competitive.
Race 5
NIGHTINGALES SING is the best bet on the programme. She raced from a handy position over 1600m last time and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber should be at home over 1950m. She meets the right field today and should take a power of beating.
STYLE ICON ran a good race when second over 1900m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PIXIE IN LOVE has been disappointing in recent outings. On best form shown, she can cause an upset in this line-up.
Race 6
KHANYISA INDLELA fought hard in his last start over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville, but found one too good in the form of Etiquette. He has won once and finished second once from four starts on this course. He takes a drop-in class and can go one better here.
BILLY OF TEA finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
MANIC MONDAY is a filly taking on the males. She was touched off in her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. Apprentice Kobeli Lihaba retains the ride and she may be rewarded for consistency.
Race 7
KUPHOLIWE dead-heated when winning his last start over 1000m on this course. He raced from a prominent position and fought hard all the way to the line. He should have no issues with the rise to 1200m and with Richard Fourie retaining the ride, he can follow up.
WINTER BARON finished 0.45 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
RAPID FIRE challenged strongly when 0.25 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 8
This is a competitive Merit Rated 73 Handicap for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is HARLEY’S FATE from the Nathan Kotzen stable. She was running on when fourth over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. She has won twice and finished third once from four starts on this course. She runs well for Muzi Yeni and can return to winning ways.
KITTEN’S ADVENTURE finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire.
SPIRITED FLIGHT finished 1.85 lengths behind ASPOESTERTJIE last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much between them at the wire
