Race 1
QUID PRO QUO caught the eye when second on debut over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She lost a length leaving the start, but flew up late. The daughter of Lance would have come on from the run and should make the natural improvement. She does take on winners, but carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should be up to the task at hand.
FINE ONE was an easy winner at the second time of asking over 900m. He showed good speed and despite hanging in the closing stages, he won with a ton in hand. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
IBHELE won a good race on debut over 800m on this course. He would have strengthened up during his time off the track. The son of Captain Of All could be anything and can remain unbeaten.
Race 2
APEX PREDATOR produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He returns from a 22-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, he should win a race of this nature.
HEAVEN’S WILL’S last two starts have been fair. The son of William Longsword is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.
VATHOMVLAFFIE hails from the visiting Corne Spies stable. She has been disappointing in her last two starts on the Highveld. Her effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course, three runs ago catches the eye. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if putting her best foot forward, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 3
VIHAAN’S QUEEN has produced three good efforts to date. She moved up like a winner over 1400m last time but was touched off by Pinstripe who has come out and finished second since. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Erupt has cracked pole position and she should take a power of beating.
SWEETER THAN HONEY was running on when second over this distance last time. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back and if keeping on a straight line, she should pose a threat.
BLUE HORIZON set the pace over 1900m last time, but found one too good in the form of Off Limits. Her penultimate run over this distance on the Polytrack was encouraging. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
Race 4
SEND ME was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m. His debut effort when finishing fourth over 1000m catches the eye. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is bred to enjoy the mile. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and in this line-up, he can shed his maiden tag.
ROCK OF BISMANTOVA ran a fair race over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He jumps from a good draw of three and must be included in all bets.
IMAGINABLE’S last two starts have been fair. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back and she may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
Race 5
BALLROOM BLISS stayed on when third over this distance at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Twice Over takes a drop-in class and if suited to this course, she can return to winning ways.
BOSNAY’S last two starts have been fair. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She drops back in class and with a bit of luck in running, she should pose a threat.
LILLYBELLE stayed on when fourth over 1750m last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. On best form shown, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 6
MASTER JOSH ran a good race when third in his comeback run over 1200m. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts over this distance. The son of Pomodoro will strip a much fitter horse and if keeping on a straight line, he should be the one to beat.
HARLEY STREET ran on well when fifth in his comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. The son of Var will prefer the step up to 1400m and he should strip fitter. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he is one of the leading contenders.
EDDIE THE MOVER set the pace over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time, but was outrun late by Lake Como. He is likely to get his own way in front once again and may be hard to peg back.
Race 7
WILLIAM ROBERTSON is a winner of his last three starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. He raced from just off the pace last time and despite hanging in the closing stages, he won with ease. He is the class horse in the race and should take a power of beating.
BEECHAMWOOD BOY finished 3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
PRAY FOR RAIN got up on the line to win his last start over 1000m on this course. If repeating that effort, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 8
MAGGIE SMITH stayed on when sixth over 1000m on the polytrack last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and she should be involved at the finish.
CHELSEA FLOWER’S last two starts have been good. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last outing has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SHONA KIRSTY YVES stayed on when third over 1400m last time. She finished 0.25 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish
