Race 1
PORRIDGE BOY made his way to Cape Town for the Listed Heineken Summer Juvenile Stakes last time. His first two career outings were fair. The son of Erupt should love the rise to 1400m. With a bit of luck in running, he can improve to win this contest.
TENJIKU showed good speed over 1160m last time, but found one too good in the form of Elegantrix. The son of Erik The Red is a progressive type and should love the rise to 1400m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WHISPERING DEATH is an unraced son of Danon Platina from the Mike and Mathew De Kock stable with Raymond Danielson in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Mrs Browning and Aragosta. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrants.
Race 2
TRAIL RUNNER stayed on when third over 1400m on this course last time. It is interesting that she drops to 1160m but she is a progressive type and in this field, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
NKWENKWEZI is better than her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If finding the form of her debut run, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
MIZZEN SWORD stayed on when fourth in a work riders race last time. Jarryd Penny steps back into the saddle and he can earn another cheque for his patrons.
Race 3
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SPIRIT IN THE WIND from the Chris Jonker stable. She showed good improvement in her last start over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. Despite over racing in the early stages, she stayed on at the finish. If confirming her recent improvement, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
CITY LIGHTS is better than her last two starts. She has finished second four times from six starts over this distance. In this type of field, it would not be a surprise to see her in the winner’s enclosure.
RISING RUSSIAN had excuses in her last start over 2000m. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
THE ULTIMATE KING showed very good improvement when third over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He was slow into stride but stayed on nicely at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Vercingetorix will love the rise to 1800m. He is drawn widest of all in barrier 13, but gets the services of Gavin Lerena who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
COUNT HUHTIKUU should have finished closer to the winner last time. The son of Royal Mo should love the rise to 1800m and from pole position, he is one of the leading contenders.
SANTIAGO’S PRIDE is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out post-race. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 5
ARTIST’S MODEL is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Dingaans. He returns from an 11- week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody will love the rise to 1800m. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and he may be the one to side with.
ON TARGET was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Lancaster Bomber looks to have ability and he merits healthy respect.
IMMEDIATE EDGE won a good race on debut over 1600m on this course. The son of Vercingetorix takes on stronger, but he could be anything and may be up to the task at hand. He is carded to race on 13 February 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 6
VEGAS HI RISE is better than his last start over this C&D. He finished 1.25 lengths behind WARM WINTER NITE in his penultimate run. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He drops back in class and can notch up his sixth-career victory.
PRIZED PLATINUM won a good race in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
WARM WINTER NITE finished 0.4 lengths behind MARIACHI MADNESS last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
Race 7
PURPLE PITCHER is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. His penultimate run when second in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup was encouraging. Two of his seven career victories have come over this distance. He is likely to race on the speed and can return to winning ways.
SILVER SANCTUARY is better than her last start in the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SON OF RAJ was caught late over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is having his peak run today and cannot be ignored.
Race 8
YAMADORI should have won his last start as he hung inwards in the final 400m. He has won twice, finished second once and third twice from nine starts over this distance. If keeping on a straight line, he should be hard to peg back.
RONDEBOSCH ran a fair race over this C&D last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. His only victory came under Gavin Lerena. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has ability and should be involved at the finish.
DONTSHOOTTHEBARMAN showed good speed when winning his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes on stronger, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand
