Race 1

SIMPLY MAJESTIC was an impressive winner of her last start over 800m on this course. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is a progressive type and she can follow up with another victory.

DANTONFROMSANDTON produced a promising debut effort over 800m on this course. Despite losing a length at the start, he showed pace before getting outrun late. The son of Willow Magic would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.

PISTOL PETE is a son of Buffalo Bill Cody and he hails from the Tony Peter stable. He is carded to race on 16 January 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 2

THE AFRICA HOUSE has finished fourth in his last four starts, the latest of which was in the Grade 3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes. The drop to 1160m may be what he is looking for. He is the best-weighted runner in this contest and can return to winning ways.

MOUNT PILATUS stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. He should have no issues with the drop to 1160m as he won on debut over 1200m. If getting away to a clean start, he should pose a threat.

TIME FO ORCHIDS was an easy winner of her last start over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. That was her first run for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and she can follow up.

Race 3

CRIMSON FOREST has improved in her last two starts with the tongue-tie fitted. She finished second in her penultimate run over this distance. The daughter of Silvano is likely to race on the speed from her good draw of two and may be hard to peg back.

PERFORM stayed on when third over this distance at the Vaal last time. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

PLAY WITH FIRE finished 0.05 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. She finished third in her penultimate run over this C&D.

Race 4

MASTER TIK TOK has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He raced from a handy position over 1800m last time, moved up but was caught late by Eiger Sanction. The son of Mogok Master tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can go one better.

THUNEE PLAYA has finished third in all three efforts to date. He was slow into stride over the mile last time and ran on strongly. The son of Vercingetorix will be at home over 2000m and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

DARK SILVER finished 0.2 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. T

Race 5

ALULA’S STAR finished 1.4 lengths behind MAGIC TATTOO last time. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She carries a nice weight of 54.5kgs and is capable of returning to winning ways.

MAGIC TATTOO ran a good race when second in the Grade 3 Betway Lebelo Sprint last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run and should be right there.

MOVER AND SHAKER finished 3.25 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 6

KING OF VENUS showed good speed in his last start over 1000m at the Vaal and fought hard to notch up his third-career victory. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Apprentice Siyanda Sosibo takes the 1.5kgs off his back and he can follow up.

SIBERIAN STEEL received a bump leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish second. The son of What A Winter has consistent form lines to his credit and merits healthy respect.

AMPERSAND may not have seen out the 1400m last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a drop-in class and on best form shown, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 7

TROPPO VELOCE stayed on when second in the Non-Black Type Sophomore 1000 last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She is the best weighted runner in this contest and should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

CULLINAN BLUE was an easy winner of her last start over this C&D. She quickened up well and drew clear in the closing stages. This is her toughest test to date, but she has class and can notch up the hat-trick.

ONE FELL SWOOP has shown good speed in her last two victories, the latest of which was over this C&D. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 8

MUNCHKIN showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he had to be steadied late. The son of Rafeef tries the mile and he should have no issues with the extra distance on offer. Kabelo Matsunyane is booked to ride and he may be able to get the best out of him.

RYANS BOULEVARD was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over 1400m. He set the pace, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

PRESLEY ran on powerfully when winning his maiden last time. He will love the rise to the mile and has plenty of scope. He has cracked a handy draw of five and must be included in all bets.

Race 9

YOUCANTHURRYLOVE challenged strongly in his last start over 2000m, but found one too good in the form of Home Of The Brave. He has won once, finished second once and third four times from nine starts over this C&D. Denis Schwarz retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

HAWKBILL finished 0.9 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

LUTHULI is the stable companion of the top choice. He won a good race in his last start over 1600m on this course. He has won twice from four starts over this distance. He is in a good space and can follow up.

Race 10

KUDZU took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but was caught late. The son of Flower Alley was reported to be blowing post-race. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. In this field, he can return to winning ways.

CARNELO set the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. It must be noted that Spring In Heaven has come out and won again since. He is likely to adopt the same tactics under Muzi Yeni and may be hard to peg back.

COPPER JOHN finished 1.35 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned, but he should finish closer as a result
